I have a 96 2500 CTD and tow a large 5th wheel I am considering upgrading the braking system on the truck. I have priced EGR's front upgrade as well as the disc brake conversion and I am looking for feedback from anyone who has installed the system. Is is that much better than stock, in other words is iit worth the money. Is it a reasonably easy installation. Thanks Lou

i have talked to Glenn at EGR last week about the upgrade with keeping the rear drums. i have had a major pull left when the brakes get hot. pulling a 5ver didn't help. while talking to him he mentioned about the height sensing valve. i have since removed the arm from the valve to the axle and 95% of my pull is gone! i'm ecstatic, i can brake without turning left. i'm waiting for them to get the steel braided lines built so i can do the full conversion at once. ken

I installed the EGR carbon/kevlar pads on my 96, did the SS line upgrade and basically everything except the drilled rotors as I had just purchased new ones last time. At the time the rear disc brake conversion wasn't available. It did stop better than stock, and there was certainly a decrease in brake fade on grades. However, given the expense of the upgrade, I wouldn't do it again. I think you'd be better off with a set of good after market pads and install the E brake. I can't comment on the rear disc- I would like to do that on my 01 when I get the $$$.
