It's brake replacement time again on the old 99 and I was just curious if anyone here has tried the ERG brakes?

I was checking out the website and they look like really high quality stuff. It seems a bit high dollar but I really don't think brakes are some where I want to skimp on. :) They have several Kits to choose from for the fronts, that start at $700 for new calipers, pads, rotors, and fluid, and then they also have a rear disc conversion for about $1,000 that I'm looking at as well.

I wore out two sets of front rotors by 80,000 miles. Replaced the OEM's with EGR slotted rotors, pads and stainless steel brake lines. I am now at 170,000 miles and the rotors have not been turned and look great. I just went to my third set of EGR pads when Andy Redmond changed out my front wheel bearings. However, I still had about 50% left on my second set of pads (they are in a box on the shelf). All of this is good; not to mention the truck stops a whole lot better. I also have installed the 1 ton rear wheel cylinders.

I have not had my system on as long as the last poster, but I have to agree with him on there quality and improved stopping power. I am very pleased with the way my truck stops now, it's strieght and quick. I would spend the money again, and not blink an eye doing it, There are not that meany add-ons I could say that about them. The guys at EGR were very nice and true to there word. Shipping was promt and everything fit, I don't think you could ask for more. It you can do the whole system, front and back, lines and fluid, you will get the most out of your truck. I also like the fact there is less brake dust now.

egr brakes

I installed new EGR Brake kit last year about 40k miles ago I cann't talk highly enough about the better stopping quality and NO BRAKE PULL like I used to have. I had gone through 5 sets of front brake pads in 50K miles. Just checked front pads still have atleast 60% left. Installed front kit with new hoses and rear shoes plus rear wheel cylinders. It was expensive but worth it in the better braking.

I would agree the EGR's are worth it but...

If you can; have someone who has experience with the front hubs do the work. It was the hardest thing I have ever done on any vehicle. Granted I have not done everything there is to do on vehicles but I have removed engines/transmissions done lift kits, some pretty heavy duty stuff. And even with the proper puller this job took me an entire weekend.

All in all it was worth it knowing I have better brakes but for the time and effort the exhaust brake was better bang for the buck/work.

I have to say the performance of these brakes is better than stock, I don't have my pull any more, lest dust, feels more solid. But I just wanted to warn you.

At first I thought I would do the rear disk but I feel these are so much better than stock that with the exh brake I don't feel I need the disks.

Good luck,

Thanks guys.

I may just go with replacement shoes in the back and the EGR stuff up front for now and see how that does.

Thanks again.
