Hi guys. I trying to get rid of the egr on my truck. I'm going to be replacing the manifolds but in the process found out that the check engine light comes on when you remove the valve. A bad thing for emisions testing. #@$%! Can I swap computers from a non egr truck of the same vintage or do I have to make up a circuit to trick the truck? Thanks for your help.

When I capped off my egr my engine light came on, and my truck pinged. It was annoying and sounded bad. I did not notice any difference in performance. I uncapped it and put stock egr back on.

1997 12v.

There's a "cure" lots cheaper than a new PCM. It involves some wiring and a resistor or 2. PM or e-mail me and I'll dig up my old diagrams. Incidently, I never had a problem with pinging on my '98. I made the change because because the exhaust brake forced the egr valve open with the back pressure so it didn't work to full effect.

I have Never seen a 12 v ping from removing the EGR. Are you talking about

a gasser?

Bob

No its not a gas motor. 1997 12v. It did ping. I dont know why, but it went away after putting erg back on???? I have no idea what caused it. It sounded just like a gas motor ping.

EGR trucks have a 1 1/4" metal tube going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve located on the intake manifold. You can't miss it.
