I have read little bits here and there on this site about the negative aspects of EGR on the 2004. 5 ISB2 and I wanted to ask those of you "in the know" about what this means. I am planning on buying a new body style SRW 3500 with the Cummins and I wanted to know how detrimental this new EGR requirement will be. I already know that EGR reduces the cycle temperatures (and pressure) by displacing "fresh air" in the incoming charge with already combusted gasses. My main concern is how this will affect the overalll clenliness, maintenance and lifespan of my diesel. I have read that the increase in solid particulates (soot) makes these engines foul more quickly. Also, for those of you who have placed a custom order with a dealer before, if I place an order in the fall of 2003 (for the 2004 model year) will that be enough lead time in order to get a non EGR ISB. I really cannot order one much earlier than that for financial reasons. I appreciate and insight into this dillema that you all may offer!
