yes truck is an auto, it is also very new to me I loved my dually and wish it had not been wreaked. it was dependable and a great joy in my life. I NEVER turned on the radio I just listened to my motor running down the road. It was a romantic experience for me just to go to and from work each day. Pulling was another experience. My dually sang a happy song pulling. My 4x4 is squirrelly and I know that I have some slight work to do to it as far as the front end. That was a given when I got it. But this fuel economny deal really has me bothered. I thought the truck had never been turned up she don't blow a bunch of black smoke and seems normal as far as response IE nothing special. now I really have to start thinking whats wrong here? Going to have to start at square one and get her healthy before I do anything. This really is disapointing. I would even be happy at 19mpg thats not even close to what I got going on.

I've been following this thread closely, and now that CA has exempted my '97 truck from emissions inspections, I'm ready to yank the EGR. I initially installed gauges, a fuel plate, larger turbo housing, and yanked the waste gate. Lots of power and better mileage, but I really had to watch the EGT when towing or loaded and pulling a grade. I then installed a 4" turbo-back exhaust (with muffler), which helped, but still had high EGT's pulling loads uphill.

I can't wait to pull out that restrictive CA intake air horn and install a new 3-piece exhaust manifold rather than using a block-off plate. I'm looking forward to getting this truck running the way it was originally designed to run. It'll be interesting to see if I get the dreaded CEL. But if I do, I now know how to wire around it. Thanks.
