Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I Love my Truck

In the last few days when I stop driving and shift to park my EGT no longer drops as it used to do. I normally shut down when the EGT drops to 350, now it drops slowly to about 380 and stays there. It is in the low 60s here in Alameda, CA and I can not explain why my EGT no longer drops as low as previously.

Any ideas on what is causing this, and can you suggest what to do about it?

Additional load on the engine will cause slightly higher temps at idle. Did you have the AC or the defroster on? Both of those would cause the compressor to cycle. Could also be a fault in the gauge, mine will drop below 300 in 60° weather.

My A/C is off the only thing on was the heater fan and the radio. But these have been on before in the same conditions and the EGT at idle would drop below 350 after a short wait. Starting yesterday it now stops at or above 380.

re-tighten all electrical connections to the EGT system. I have had to do this couple of times. Over time, they build corrosion and/or loosen up.

I checked the connections and they were clean and tight. Should I have removed the thermocouple from the exhaust manifold to check it?

Taking a far out stab here but only 30* could be ......

I would say it's a safe bet that a number of things are happening. As time goes on Soot builds up on the probe thus insulating it ever so slightly and causing longer times to show colder readings. The seccond thing is anything performance related will also slow down cool off times. I. E your EZ. I know when I had my EDM's Out and stockers in I played arround and tortured myself to see what a "" Stock '" truck felt like and unplugged my VA too. Man I loved how lightning quick she cooled down to 300.

I cycled the exhaust brake several times and now the EGT drops properly. Oo. Possibly the exhaust brake did not open fully causiing the EGT to rise.

Geeeez had I saw the Pac brake sitting in your sig I coulda chimed in on that one LOL! Just ask the parkway travelers allmost a year ago (The ones that made it thru the death cloud anyhow. )

Yes if stuck closed ever so slightly it will effect egt's. Use it frequently to prevent that.
