Bug Out

A few weeks ago while going to Tulare pulls, I noticed the EGT gauge needle would jump all over the place like I hit a hard bump. I ignored it as it only happened once or twice.

Well, this trip (11/7-10/02) it went completely haywire not long after leaving the driveway. .

It was jumping all over the place and no particular reason, bumps or otherwise. Inbetween the gauge needle hopping all over the place, I would get a EGT reading though.

I bought it from Geno's a while back. Its the "Pro-comp ultra lite 1600 degree" EGT gauge.

Any simialr problems out there? A simple fix, or is the gauge shot?

I checked the underhood connections and all seemed tight. I did not pull the guage from the A pillar mount yet.

Thank in advance. Ed

No experience w/ that prob

I would check A-pilar for shorts/intermittent opens. I had a problem with my gauge light wire getting pinched in A-pilar clip.

let us know what you find and good luck,

I had the same thing happen on a new Autometer EGT gauge. Called Autometer and they said "send it back". They sent me a new one, no more problems. I would think they would have this problem figured out by now. I have heard of it a few times since. Sorry, no easy fix I know of.

Larry

Make sure and check ALL of your electrical connections first.

Had a smiliar problem with my truck when doing some wiring on my CB. We took the CB off of the fuse box the previous owner had done, and ran it straight to the battery. Well I must have nudged the wire that my installer had used for the guage because it started going crazy. Took me and a buddy a few minutes to track down, but once we did all was well. Oo.

Autometer has a new style gauge out for the pyro that replaces the little black box that comes with the old style. The needle jumping around was one of the symptoms that the elecronic box was bad. If your problems not with your conections give Autometer a call ( they know of the problem ) they should be able to help. Good luck, Thomas
