I was wondering where the proper location of the temp sensor

should be. I have seen on some trucks where it was installed

at the elbow right after the turbo, and also at the exhaust manifold just before the turbo. What is the proper procedure?

Mgalindez, there are distict advantages to having your EGT probe in both locations. If it is mounted pre-turbo you will get more accurate readings during peak exhaust moments (Like when you are pulling heavy or when you are drag racing with any variety of rice rocket). The advantage to having it mounted post-turbo is being able to accurately measure when the turbo has cooled down enough to shut down the engine without coking the turbo.

With that said, however, if you only use the truck to haul a shovel and the empty cans from a sixpak (the usual load for most trucks here), or you dont intend to keep the truck but for a year or two then the point becomes mute.

As you can see in my sig, I have both locations switched with a tiny micro switch on the A pillar right next to the gauge. For the cost of an additional EGT probe and a switch I felt that it was worthwhile.

Thanks guys. All the info I got seem to shed light on my question.

I think I'll have the dual probe set up for better knowledge of whats going on.

Being a long time sufferer if serious CRS, I installed two guages knowing that otherwise at some point I would be switched to post-turbo and reading the guage as pre-trubo :D :D :D :D

If going with one gauge and two probes and a switch a led light or two would be a way to insure witch probe was in use , LOL Ron Bissett in Louisville Metro KY:cool:

RB,

Dang! Now that would have saved me a few $$$s, that is a an excellent idea.

Oh well, next truck, 2nd truck that is :D

I'm warming my wife up to an '05 for her daily driver and our tow vehicle. Then I can put some serious RWHP into my '02. Perhaps by then the economy will have recovered and my job will have stabilized...
