I ordered a set of autometer gauges with the OH console. One of the gauges I got was the pyrometer. I was just outside looking at the truck and don't see any threaded holes on the elbow after the turbo. Will I have to drill and tap it? Also, is this the best place to mount the probe or is pre turbo better? I just want to monitor it to make sure my turbo is cool enough to shut down after hauling.

if you do a search you will find plenty on this topic. yes you will have to drill and tap the exhaust manifold. i am putting mine on the collector horizontally above the turbo. that way i can unbolt the turbo and be certain i get all the shavings out. i think this is the best spot because it should give you the average of all the cylinder temps. to drill the hole if you have a 1/8 probe, i think you need a 7/32 drill bit and a 1/8 npt tapered tap.

Yours didn't come with instructions? I just ordered and received a Westach and it has complete instructions and diagram of were to install and how to install.

Check your instructions, but you will probably need a 11/32 drill. I am a tool and die maker and that is the recommended tap drill size for a 1/8 npt. Good luck. Please post how the install goes, I am planning on installing gauges in the future.

I believe SSalzer said he wanted the pyro to monitor cool down temperatures. If that is the primary purpose of the pyro, it should be mounted post-turbo. The turbo cools off a lot slower than you think. My truck is stock and I wanted to have my pyro for the same reason so I mounted it post-turbo. If you plan on power upgrades and need to prevent a meltdown pre-turbo is best of course.
