2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission EGT gauge not working

I have a combo Westach EGT/Boost gauge. The boost is working just fine but the EGT will not register a reading, it never has worked since installation.



Anyone else have this problem. Solutions, tests?? :{

Can you tell us how you have it connected?



You should have the white lead coming from the probe connected to pin 1 on the back of the gauge and the black lead connected to pin 3.

I installed Westach gauges a week or so ago & had the same problem. I reversed the polarity of the probe & the problem was solved.

It is possible that the gauge is bad. The first EGT gauge I installed in '96 was bad. The replacement has worked fine since then. You might to make sure you have it hooked up right. Westach hookup instruction are here: http://www.frostalarm.com/hookup/

I've checked and checked and rechecked to make sure the gauge is hooked up properly. I have switched the leads, no fix. I still have to do the ohm's test to determine if the gauge or the thermal sensor is bad. Any pointers there?

To check the sender first disconnect the 2 pins plugged into the leads going to the gauge. Using an ohm meter check the resistance of the sender. On a cold sender you should see about 2. 5 ohms of resistance.



Now check the gauge with the meter which should be between 8 - 15 ohms. There should also be a needle deflection on the gauge when the meter is connected (it won't be very much).



Mine went after about 3 years just a month or so ago. It was the sender. Got one from Geno's and I'm back to square one again. Cheers.
