Downshift is chattering my teeth

A little more turbo "on the cheap"?

What elevation are you at?

The HE351 is about tapped out for towing at +70, I never ran SW2 for towing due to the elevation I ran at.

PoD of 90 or 99 does the same, you can drop PoD to 85 and not change the power at all, but the pedal is softer.

I will try dropping POD to 85 and see what happens. I'm not sure what our elevation is. Egt sure can change with changes in temperature. Their might need to be a different turbo in the future for my 05. We will see how she runs with injectors. It's tough to go to less power after having "enough". Maybe I have another problem.

What size injectors are you going with?

I really like PoD 85, I find the truck more fun to drive and not as touchy.. I also have really soft torque management at mild throttle with UDC. I really don't like a touchy throttle when driving on dirt roads, towing or empty.

I would go with 50 HP injectors again I think. I would retard the timing a bit like I did on my 03. The smarty jr works ok with smaller injectors. With the 05 having more injector cycles than the 03 and maybe not the best maintenance I think injectors on my schedule is a good idea.

A softer pedal would be ok. Save tires and fuel.

I am not sure you would need, or want, to retard timing on SW1 or SW2, and SW1 is probably about all you could tow with after injectors.

My '03 has timing set to 3. I remember CKelley1 saying that's where he set the Jr settings with his trucks with 50 HP injectors. I put POD to 85 today on both my trucks. I'm not sure where his settings are at on 04.5-07 trucks with stock turbos and 50 HP injectors. I'm sure I could look it up. I believe he tried some aftermarket turbos too. It's a slippery slope, injectors, turbo, cam, clutch..... My oil gets so darn black so quickly in my 05. I should have waited for an 03 3500 but I have fast idle!

I believe CKelly1 uses SW1 and his right for for EGT control.

Timing at 2 is fine in my book on the SJR with 50's.

I have closer to 90's and run more aggressive timing that the Jr and it's still pretty mild.

I'll maybe try 2 sometime. The pistons and injector tips that you have in your engine John are they similar to the 03 piston and injector tips, ie spray pattern. That might have something to do with timing settings. It's a pretty big job to have a new cam installed if I remember correctly. That would be the thing to do on my 05.

Being located in a non- mountainous region I rarely see peak boost. Up a few long hills or when passing someone are the only times I'll max it out. In your neck of the woods having a truck set up the way you have it would be a necessity.

Yes the injectors are MY03 pattern and the piston are the same bowl but a slightly different part number.

I ran the same style timing on my stock 05 setup.

Yes the cam is labor intensive, but makes a big difference especially if you tow at altitude.

Installed the boost elbow today. Boy what a difference. I wish I knew about this before we went through the western mountains. The truck with the camper really gets up and goes. Thanks for the heads up:D

For rich burn engines (such as most gasoline engines that run on the rich side of the stoichiometric point), your assumption is correct. For lean burn engines (such as diesels) that run on the lean side of the stoichiometric point, the inverse is correct - adding air drops combustion temperatures; adding fuel increases them. To visualize this in both cases, moving closer to the stoichiometric point increases combustion temperatures while moving away from the stoichiometric point decreases them.

I added trans parts recommended by cerberusiam and did the home depot cold air intake, shifts are firmer,I guess would be the discription,I feel like the trans is holding better-transfering more power to the wheels.Made a trip to Silverton hauling 5 horses and trailer over 2 10,000 ft. plus passes, did much better, but still having to downshift someplaces to keep EGT's under control.I will continue to be careful and start saving for changing the turbo situation-recommendations would be helpful,I,m going to be looking at ATS because they are close, being in Denver. Thanks for all the help, feel like I'm getting there.

Nice outcome!
