Thats too high. I occasionally peak into 1300 but thats just a few seconds. Do a search Im sure there are a few threads on this.

im interested to know also because now i put the f1 injectors 40 hp and i took off the ottomind six and my truck is running 1000 1200 on the highways and if get on it it will go up to 1500 ive got the big intercooler need some info.

Your not the 1st complaint on the Ottominor . . I don't know why Banks marketed that tuner when the PowerPDA is 10 times the tuner...

Doesn't aluminum melt about 1250 degrees F? - I know the temps have to be well above that for pistons to start having problems because of the underside cooling and cooldown as fresh air is ingested.

I seem to remember 1350 to 1400F as the absolute max sustained for the third gens. Am I dreaming or just getting too old to remember correctly/

PS --- I found this link: melting points of metal, metals, metallurgy, how to

----Pure AL goes limp at 1218F.

all i know im totally turned off by the banks programers i have the edge one that you got move the jumpers around an and it worked better than the banks. now when i did the injector install rip at source said to have my pistons checked because they found some aluminium on the #1 injector so i bought a borescope to check them myself couldnt find anybody where im located with one checked em and they did not look melted from what i could see with the borescope installed the injectors and seems to be running fine just the matter of the egt thats worrying me now!!!!

1350 is safe for all 5. 9s. It is worth the comment that EGTs are just a touch tone for actual cylinder temps, compression ratios, timing, duration. . all need to be consider equal. . Boost is a major player in the cylinder temps also. If you have low boost with heavy fueling EGTs will sky rocket and be uncontrollable. . If your CR injector(s) hang you will never know it until its to late. Post and Pre Egts are what I run on my personnel CR, if the Pre is 1100/1200 and my Post is 600/700 I don't worry too much, if Pre 1100/1200 and post 1000/900 I take my foot out of it, this is just a small indication that the cylinder temps may not be dissipating. Internal parts may not handle these extreme temps for long.

My 03 with the edge/att will go past 1400 degrees preturbo so fast in 5th or 6th it scares me. I never hold it wot but highway passing at wot will always exceed a 1440 alarm point. Normal highway temp both empty and with the 5er is fine. I wish I would have had an EGT gauge before installing the edge. Anyone know what the stock temps were doing at wot and with loads like a 5er. I know the engine temps would raise noticably with the 5er but never got much over, guessing 220 on the idiot guage. Obviously things were getting warm but can't remember feeling the engine was defuelling. Anyone know how much a new intercooler will reduce temps or is a bigger turbo the correct answer? I do have cold air intake/high flow filter and 4" exhaust. Thxs in advance.

03/04 + 1400 =$$$$ ,My 03 is 550/600hp max with daily driving 450hp My highest egts recorded 1369, My highest daily 1235. . IMO 03/04 should never see 1400, if your seeing this on daily driving you best make some changes or your wallet is going to be suck into the intake.

I have my tst back off @ 1400 I ahve been told that it is common at least for my model year truck to get that hot even stock?

Other factors to consider...

Depending on where you're measuring the pre-turbo EGT, the reading may be off as much as 75 - 100° F. Are you sure you're measuring the hottest location? Most will ascertain that cylinders 5 and 6 run the hottest due to the flow of air through the intake, cooling water passages, etc.

As timing is advanced, the max safe EGT decreases... this one bites a lot of people. Even if you don't have a timing "box", larger injectors and higher rail pressure advances timing.

How much confidence do you put in the absolute accuracy of your thermocouple and gauge? According to the brand, this could be off 25 - 50+° as well...

For me, I set the TST backdown on 1250° F. This may seem overkill, but if I need more power than this, I'd rather spend it on upgraded turbo(s), water spray, or other upgrades to keep temperatures in check... rather than shelling out cash on rebuilding a engine because I took a chance.

Just some thoughts...

I have a hard time to get to 1200F with my smarty jr on tow. On the perf setting I have seen only 1250. I like to keep things under 1200-1250 on all trucks I've had. A smarty jr will drop your egts a lot and provide more power. It is now adjustable with power on demand. I tried my jr on a buddy's '05 with Juice with ATT and he had more power and significantly reduced egts. Keep your juice for guages and get a smarty you won't be dissappointed. Go to smartypower.com for more info. Some guys will gripe about me plugging the smarty but it will solve your egt problems. My intake horn helped egts and a different exhaust manifold will too. If your egts hit that high already, I would plan on doing the exhaust manifold soon as my buddy had his warp and got an ATS unit.
