If you have a single-wire probe, yes. . I`ve only seen two-wire probes, but that doesnt mean there couldnt be single-wires out there...

If a single is what you have, getting the grounds as close as possible together is best for a good reading. . Also terminal contact is key (ie scrape off surface rust)

good luck

sorry that I did not put down how many wires, it has two. I know my Westech, is listed & 25-27 of which it is but I have an other one. That is why the question on grounding. I just have a low EGT reading when I'm working the engine. I know it should register higher.

the probe uses different metal in each wire the wires are twisted together in the probe, it will read low ohms , if the twisted part is damaged it will still read low ohms but can not generate enough power to read accurate use a heat gun to check if off use the chart stated above to check the probe if the reading matches the gun the gauge is bad you can buy a gun for $80 and use it on trips to check wheel bearings , tires rear end , and transfer case

Go to the Westach website. They have a trouble shooting button that will tell you how to test the probe with an ohmeter. FYI both the probe and the gauge need to be grounded to the same source for accurate readings.
