I agree with Zach,

EGT and Fuel are on about equal levels.

Get a Fuel Pressure and EGT,, then later a boost for entertainment...

If I had to choose between boost and EGT,, I would definatly go for EGT

Merrick

EGT and boost really correlate. If you come back with a high EGT, the first thing people are going to ask is "What's your boost pressure?" Fuel pressure-certainly critical on a 24V.

I have 4 gauges in a 2-gauge pod using the Westach dual combo gauges. In the first, I have a combo EGT/boost gauge, and in the second I have a pre-filter and post-filter fuel pressure gauge. You might consider this approach if you only have one gauge slot available.

Normally, I would also agree with Zach, however, I don't think that the fuel pressure is as important with an '03. 5. Therefore, I would go with the pyro.

Why do you say that?

Nick

Please correct me if I am wrong, Nick. I own one of those old-fashioned 2nd gens and had thought that the fuel pressure issue was more or less resolved with the 3rd gens (unless we are talking large horsepower increases). As a 2nd generation owner, I think that the fuel pressure guage is about the most important one, however.

Stock 3rd gens are ok from what i hear. But like you said when you add big hp, like a fuel box WATCH OUT. Not very good. And as for the "old truck" comment. I looked at your gallery and that is one nice rig you got there.

Nick

Thanks Nick, I think that she still has a few years left in 'er. :D I was mainly responding to the original post of If you can only have one... . I, however, am a believer in the more the merrier, as a gauge is the easiest way to diagnose any kind of developing problem (even in stock form).

Where are you planning to mount this one gauge? If I had to pick one and only one, it would be EGT. If I could have 2, I would have fuel pressure as well, with boost a distant 3rd.

Probably 3 reason to have a boost gauge... And this is for if and when...

1) when your truck is modified and your running up near the stock head gaskets limits and you'd like to keep an eye on it...

2) For those who use there trucks to make money (hotshots, etc) and want to moniter there MPG threw the turbo.

3) To show your buddies with gassers how your truck can handle 3 times the amount of boost they run..... With the stock motor :-laf

Am i right here?

Nick

A suggestion. If you REALLY can have only one, how about the Westech dual gauges. That way you would have the pyro and boost - that you really need IMHO.

Findings So Far

Well it looks like everyone agrees, kinda, that the monitoring the EGT's is the most important SINGLE item.

I am not wanting any gauges that don't look stock or in a stock location.

I don't like the X-monator, or digital gauges.

I have given the duel Westach serious consideration, but they don't look that great and appear hard to read.

I want to keep my grab handle.

Bottom line is to keep everything as clean as possible, much like a very good stereo install or motor swap in a gasser. I like having things look like they were born there.

So, I am looking to put an EGT gauge in a SRT 10 pillar mount unless I find something else.

Thank you all for your vote/posts.
