Just put new Westech EGT and boost guage in truck and may have the pipe fitting in manifold a little to deep. :( Its probably not over an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch past flush. I just wonderd if this would hurt anything the way it is? I hope these guages are reliable and accurate. I mounted it in a gizmo on the A pillar and it looks like a close match to the factory guages. Thanks in advance. Buzz.

Well, flush would've been best but IMO a little bit of fitting extending into the flow won't hurt anything. The exposed material could get too hot and burn away but it's unlikely to do that if you keep your temps below about 1300*.

They're good gauges, not to worry.

ed: oh, hi Bill.

Thermocouple fitting loosens

I have the same setup, and it works great. However, when I tapped the manifold (my first tap job ever), I think I went a tiny bit too big. Twice now, during towing trips when the EGTs fluctuate from <300 to >1000, the fittings have come loose and the thermocouple popped out! Thankfully I didn't lose any parts! You can hear it chuffing with every pulse and boost goes all to heck.

I'm afraid to torque the fitting too much, so I just check it at every fillup.

If anyone has a solution for this, like a type of Loctite that will withstand the heat, I'm open to suggestions.

Eventually, I expect the stock manifold to crack, then I'll just have to get an ATS 3-piece unit :D

One more thing, WTH size fitting is that? Neither standard or metric wrenches seem just right. Is it AN?

Thanks,

Neil
