I currently have a Banks pyro in a post-turbo location. I had a pyro pre-turbo on my 02 HO. I definitely prefer the pre-turbo location. I wasn't able to get the two inboard nuts loose from the studs on the exhaust flange, hence the post- location.

Am I reading right? Are some of you not removing the turbo for the install? If so, what is the technique? Also, do any of you remember how long the thermo-couple was that you used? I removed mine out just now(didn't measure), but it seems terribly long. Almost too long to go in the manifold without bottoming out.

Sorry for the wordy post and thanks.

Are you installing probe pre turbo?

I installed pre-turbo on both 2d and 3d Gen w/out removing turbo. It has been almost a year since the install, but here it is:

Your gonna locate it coming off #3 cylinder, centered and about 2 inches from turbo. keep drill bit coated w/ axle grease to hold shavings, drill straight down and you'll need a small magnet w/ flexible shaft to retrieve all the filings out of the manifold.

Also, check TST website: They have great instructions.

Hope this helps and good luck, Wiredawg

I installed mine this weekend. I put it right above the turbo in the back (4,5,6) passage. I used a right angle attachment on the drill and a new stubby 11/32 bit. I was not able to use a magnet to fish out pieces because of the position over the turbo. I did use grease on the bit and tap. I did not use back pressure (motor running) to force the fillings out.

Started it up and drove away. No problems.

The Westach came with a short thermocouple. I did not measure it but would guess that it extends about 2. 5 inches into the manifold. I did stick a tyrap into the hole I drilled to confirm it was deeper than the thermocouple.

Your right, the back two nuts are hard to get at from the top. I used a long extension and went from the bottom with no problem. I didn't want to take any chances, so I pulled the turbo. It's not that big of a deal to pull four nuts and a couple of hose clamps, then you know there isn't anything in there.

Stick
