I'm getting frustrated at my EGT problem. I tow a 40 ft Toy Hauler and it seems to be at 1200 degrees all the time. And that's with me backing off the throttle to keep it there. I just installed the Stage 3 HX35/40 Hybrid turbo from High Tech and haven't towed the trailer yet (this weekend). I tried all the different levels on the comp but only tow the trailer in the off, level 1 or 2 positon. When tooling around town without a trailer and the comp on 5x5, I can smoke screen an intersection, even with this new turbo. I still get smoke with the comp box off. I did a pressure test on the cooler system for leaks and didn't find anything. I have a Hasley Machine anti defueler in line with the Edge Comp that I'm thinking about tossing out. Also thinking about downsizing the injectors to 275's. Any suggestions? :(

If it's any help, take a look at my much milder truck in my signature below. With the EZ and DD2s (comparable to your comp on level 1 (right?) and the 1. 5 injectors), we cruise on the Interstate at 70 MPH running around 700-750 degF pre-turbo and 11-12 PSIG boost. If I hammer it on the 6% or steeper grades in 6th or when accelerating onto the Interstate, I can drive EGTs up to 1350-1400 degF, but it's really no problem holding them at 1200 or below since the only time they rise that high is under these conditions (i. e. , really steep grades or hard acceleration).

Edit - for reference, my truck would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo @ 21 PSIG boost when towing when it was absolutely stock except for the Jacobs e-brake (dealer installed before delivery). With the EZ, 4" exhaust, BHAF and stock injectors, the maximum EGT dropped to 1100 degF @ 30 PSIG.

The larger the compressor, the higher the cruise temps, and the greater the lag off idle (more smoke). It's a trade off with singles; if you want to clean up the top end you'll dirty up the bottom.

Smaller housings can help bring the compressor's effective range down in the rpms (cooler cruise rpm temps), at the cost of (possibly) higher egts on the top end. And too small of a housing with a large compressor will result in compressor surge during accleration. What size housing are you running?

Or run in fifth. Higher rpms will spool the turbo harder and move more air for lower egts. Not really practical though.

I ran into the same thing with my hybird turbo when I went to tow. Now when I'm planning on a road trip with the trailer, I put the factory turbo back on to keep the midrange cool. With mach 2s and the Comp on 1x1, the stock turbo has no problems keeping temps in check.

On a side note, having the anti defueler in line with the Comp is redundant. The anti defueler is a boost fooler, and the Comp has a boost fooler built in. So you have a boost fooler fooling a boost fooler. No power gain, just throwing off the signal that the Comp sees. The anti defueler is for the folks that want to run higher boost without a box. Toss it.

I have the 14 cm housing. I haven't tried towing the trailer yet, with the new turbo set up, that's this weekend. Could the EDM 1. 5's run it hotter? Should I toss those for some 275 RV injectors? My boost doesn't seem high while cruising. At 65 to 70 MPH, I have between 0 to 5 PSi boost. When I get on the throttle, I can make it jump to 30, but it drops quickly after that. Is that normal.

Yeah, the 1. 5s will be hotter than the RVs. But like I mentioned above, I have no problem egt-wise towing with my M2s and a Comp on 1x1 with the stock turbo. I think you just need to tune your turbo to your application.

By any chance, when the boost drops quickly, is that about 2700 rpm-ish?

With my set-up, I hit about 1000-1100 going uphill in 4th gear with 10K hooked up. I see 36psi max boost, around 70 I'm at about 15psi. Try it with the new turbo and see what happens, my 14cm housing really helped!! And DO NOT get rid of the Don's sticks!! You'll be sorry!! :D

How heavy is that trailer? Yesterday I was able to pull a posted 6% grade hill with a 5200 lb. trailer at 60 mph in 5th gear with no egt issues and my TST PM3 set on 4. The day before I pulled a 8500 trailer up a similar hill at 48 mph (traffic prevented going any faster) in 5th and egts were around 1070. This was with my 01 Dodge listed below. I have the 3. 55 rear. I'll add that to my signature later.

toss the anti-defueler, like pc12driver said its redundant and may be interfearing with the comp anyway

i wouldnt change injectors, from my understanding the 1. 5s are far superior and should allmost run cooler than the 275s in a side by side comparison

keep the box on 1 (i tow a 10,000lb trailer with mine on 1x1) at least you will get the timing which should help keep egts in check

Well, my trailer is a 40 foot toy hauler at about 14 to 15K. I tried the hookup with the trailer this weekend and the turbo did help. It still climbs the EGTs quickly if I'm getting on an on ramp to the freeway that has a grade on it, but it seems to stay happy at 1200. I did toss the anti-defueler and my boost is around 15 to 20 psi when driving onto that on ramp. I can only hit the 30 psi at the beginning of an acceleration then it bleeds off. We will try it this Thanksgiving weekend heading towards the sand dunes. We'll keep the EDMs for now and see how she does. Thanks for all the input.
