I just pulled my 5er (11,000 lbs) to Green Ridge State Forest in Maryland (off I-68). Lots of hills and pretty country. I did this unloaded last week, and then with the 5er. Unloaded, I only saw about 850 degrees, and that was WOT trying to go 90 mph. Then with the 5er, I only got up around 950, with one time getting up to 1050 at about 50-60 mph. With my stock '01. 5 HO, I could get up to 1250 on just a small hill unloaded.

Are my EGTs okay? What are you guys seeing with your stock HO's? I need to know if my DiProcal gage is working right. BTW, I have the probe mounted by the #3 cylinder. I know this isn't the hottest part, and if I need to, I guess I'll mount it in a different spot.

Thanks

Those sound almost like post turbo numbers. . Granted I have a box to make my numbers higher but I'll hit 1400+ on short burst towing my 5th wheel. I have my probe mounted by cylinder 6 so maybe that's why I'm seeing hotter temps. I don't think that would make a 500+ degree difference though. I haven't pulled the 5er without the edge box to see what temps are. I'll try it next time and let you know my results.

EGT's

My probe is mounted pre-turbo and reads temps from cylinder Number 6. I can get 1250 degrees WOT at 90 mph empty. Running at 70 mph empty on level ground with no head wind I'm at about 650 degrees. My truck is stock.

Soler,

I agree with Clayton that those sound like post-turbo numbers. So either you've got an engine running really cold, or there's a problem with the pyro probe (either placement or a bad thermocouple). I suppose the next step would be to call dipricol and ask for a new gauge under warranty?

Soler, I have the same gauge mounted I believe in the same location. I can see 1250 pretty easy at WOT and I saw 1400 WOT up a big hill. I have no mods besides those listed below. Truck was MT ecxept for the rack and shell.

There must be something wrong with your gauge. Is it possible that the probe isn't in deep enough? (doesn't seem likely)

Thanks y'all.

I figured I've got faulty numbers. I'm going to put in a different probe and see what happens. I might put it by #6 and see what that does. I also thought about mounting it down just before the turbo. Has anyone done this?

If this doesn't change, I'll see about getting a new gage.

Additionally, it seems as though it will never get down below 300 to shut it down. I can be tooling along and not use any boost, using lower gears and higher RPMs, and when I go to shut down, it lingers around 400 forever

I think that my gage or the probe may be faulty.

I'll see what happens and let you know.
