EGT reading

Hello all. I have a blue tooth adapter that I plug into the OBD2 port and run Torque on my android device to read code and sensor outputs. I know we want a EGT reading pre turbo to see where we are at exhaust temp wise but my question is where is the EGT reading being taken from when I monitor it from the ECM readings? I am going to put a probe pre-turbo in the future I just want to know how relevant the number I am seeing is.

I tried the Tprque App on my android but could find no info on how to set it up. Would you please do a write up of how to do it. I am quite computer literate but new to Android. (37yrs with IBM Service)
