I cannot say with assurance if my truck is missing it's EGR or not... anyhow, my pyro probe is in the rear block-off plate on the exhaust manifold and i am a little suspecious of its readings. cruising around 500 degrees, pulling a hill with a very light load in 6th with the TC locked will only give me 650. I have never seen higher than 725. Seems to be reading a little cold to me, or is this normal for the 6. 7's? PS I am pretty sure it is reading in F not C.

No, that is not an accurate reading for a properly installed pyro probe.

I'm driving my third Dodge-Cummins. Each one of them has had an egt gauge with the pyro probe installed in the middle of the exhaust manifold. Full throttle, full load egt when pulling a grade on your engine should be around 1400°. Steady cruise varies greatly depending on road speed, load, wind, and whether it is performing a regen or not. Could be from 600° to 1200°.

Is it a digital gauge that can display both C and F? Because 500C = 932F, 650C = 1202F, and 725C = 1337F. Those seem to be reasonable numbers if it is displaying C.

TLane... I was wondering the same thing after I posted the question... It is a digital guage, but the units are not displayed, so I need to figure that out.

Ok, so I have confirmed that the gauge is calibrated in degrees F. I have talked with H&S and got a whole new pyro unit under warranty and I still have the low EGT readings. What is the normal EGT readings for the 6. 7 running around empty or interstate cruising? I am sure there are a lot of other trucks with this installation, i wonder what their temps are? I am aware that temperature is dependent on load, fuel, location etc, but I am trying to troubleshoot the problem. I have a mini-max and a h&s pyro in the rear (#6 cylinder) EGR block-off plate as part of the delete kit and I am seeing low temps. I have a hard time believing that H&S would locate the pyro in that location unless it was relatively accurate??

I have heard that readings from the block-off plate can be low, as they don't get full flow by them.

I would move it to the collector.

Normal highway cruise unloaded egt with a pyro probe properly mounted in the exhaust manifold would be somewhere in the range of 500° - 800°.

I have basically the same set up as you as far as everything is deleted. I'm running the Smarty Jr. on the towing setting with factory default set. At 70 mph empty I'm in the 600-730 F range and towing flat ground at 70 mph I'm in the 800-980F range. On long mountain climbs with the trailer and deck at 24,000# I've never really exceeded 1250F. My sending unit is mid manifold just before the collector.
