My question is regarding EGT temperatures. Don't know if there is any simple solution or not but thought I would ask. Shortly after buying my 1995 Dodge Cummins new in 1995, I had an upgrade kit installed by Cummins Northwest. All original warranties were not jeopardized because it was an official Cummins upgrade kit. It included changing to bigger injectors, modified the pump, changed the wastegate. The results were the truck has 230hp and 615lbs of torque.



More fuel = more heat. I am limited to how fast I can pull a hill with a trailer due to the EGT readings. Knowing that 1100 degress F is the maximum I would want to run the truck, it can pull the hill much faster but am limited with this factor. Is there a simple way to lower my EGT so it is not such a limiting factor with climbing a hill and having to stay at slower speeds?



I have a ATS exhaust manifold and have taken the cat and muffler out of the exhaust. Exhaust pipe is still the stock 3 inches from the turbo to the back.

Have you done anything with the intake?



I imagine Cummins installed a plate in the pump to achieve those numbers, do you know if its centered or slid forward?



Any idea how much boost you're running?
 
BHAF, water/meth injection (if boost gets up high enough to use it), bigger turbo, and/or a 16cm exhaust housing.



A BHAF and a 16cm housing would probably lower it down 100* at most. Water/meth injection claims 200* drops.

If your pyro is pre turbo, 1100 degress is not hot, run that puppy up to about 1300. If you are post, then yes you are about 100 degress over. What are your boost numbers?

It is interesting how many did not catch your comment on 1100 degrees. Real quick to spend your money on more parts.



NIsaacs has it right. 1300 degrees all day with no problem. Sometimes you can run a lower gear and lower EGT's.



I pull a 5er, which is 13000 lbs, or a slide-in camper with a total weight of 9600 lbs steep long grades with no problem, after I discovered my EGT gage was off by 400 to 500 degrees at the top end.



I run 370 injectors, #10 plate, 3GSK springs, 16 degree timing, BHAF, no cat, no muffler and a DTT auto transmission.



The last time I had my truck on the dyno, it was 250 HP. The dyno operator would not go beyond 1200 degrees. Other trucks with my mods claim to dyno at 350 to 380 HP at less than 1300 degrees.



Check your EGT gage and run at a safe 1300 degrees.
