Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) EGT Thermocouple

I am installing a Westach dual egt and boost gauge. The thermocouple looks to be threaded. Where do I thread it into? Before the turbo or after? I assume you want the tip to be approx half way in?

All depends on on where you want to measure temp. I installed in pre-turbo, and tried to place the end of the probe right in the middle of the space.

It's not the thermocouple that's threaded, it's the compression fitting that's threaded. It doesn't take much torque to seal it, I ruined the first thermocouple I installed.

I wont have to worry about it leaking since its a pipe thread right? Is there a sealer that you use to prevent leakage around that pipe fitting?

Yep what he said. I did mine post turbo though. Also make sure that when you install the compression fitting into the manifold that you use some Anti Sieze on the threads or you will have a hard time if you ever need to change out the fitting. Plus it keeps you from galling up the threads that you tap in the manifold as the mainifold is softer metal that the fitting.

My instructions with my Edge told me to go upline of the turbo in the center of the ports. Just make sure you don't oversize the hole with a drill before tapping.

Anyone have a conversion chart for what drill sizes to use for what NPT fitting to be used?

1/4 NPT 7/16 . 437

3/8 NPT 37/64 . 578



I would put it pre turbo. When I got mine I thought it came with instructions on where to drill and tap.
