What kind o EGT's are you heavily fueled 24v guys seeing when pulling or drag racing??This is on Diesel only not water injected...

Thanks Shaun

I guess that's about right, you 3rd gen guys all have like 900hp on diesel with egt's are in the 900-1000* range and still get like 40mpg right? :-laf

1600+ have seen the needle at the "m" in meter about 1,078 times with a single HY or HX.

1400 at the most with big sticks, drag comp, and twins.

Remember, 1600+ is only for a brief moment. Nothing more then 30 seconds.

Keep in mind those EXHAUST temps are -not- the temp of the cylinder head unless you leave your foot in it long enough for that heat to conduct thru all that heavy steel and aluminum.

EGT 1800 degrees for 10 secs is not nearly as hard on a truck as EGT 1400 degrees for 10 mins imo.

SO...

that guy towing his RV up a 6% grade at 80mph is abusing his truck a LOT more then a sled puller!

i see the ugly end of my gauge all the time 1600+ how long sustained do you guys think is safe?

That hot is never really safe but imo it's not excessive risk until you get to about 20 secs.

A good thermo engineer can tell us...
