Was doing an oil change today and noticed that my continual 1200* EGT's while towing up grades has managed to get hot enough, long enough to melt an auxillary wire loom that holds the pyro wires and such:( . The harness is run along with the OEM one along the rubber cowl seal.

Obviously if there is that kind of heat in there, that hot, ambient air is also being sucked into my AFE megacannon. I have the ATS manifold and Larry's turbo shield. Has anyone experiemented to see what happens with temps if you cover the manifold with a blanket? Are there any drawbacks to this? I gotta figure out something to get my EGT's down.

Kev,

I have had one for about 5 years now and I think it helps. It also makes the turbo more effecient. You will notice it takes a little longer for cool down. Actually, this is good as the temperature changes in the manifold are slowed down which should help shrinkage, warpage, etc.

I installed it when I was searching for ways to use all my power with out high EGTs and it was one of many things I did to lower EGTs. I haul heavy weight greater than 90% of the time. I have had no signs of over temp in the engine compartment.

I agree with Bob. Have had my Blanket for about 5-6 years. I love it. Keeps the heat in the exhaust where it belongs. Underhood temp is much cooler with the blanket. I got mine from Genos.

Does anyone know if I will have a problem using the blanket on an ATS manifold? I would assume it would fit and there would be no complications.

Also, for those who have used this blanket- What type of drop (if any) in EGT temps did you see??

Dkevdog,

How's that ATS exhaust manifold's performance been? Does your turbo spool up faster and give you more boost with the improved air flow? I was thinking of getting one and adding a 4" Jardine exhaust. Do you think its worth the dollars? Thanks Kyle

T. Trim-

What I like most about my ATS manifold is it holds gaskets in place. My stock manifold had only shrunk about 1/4", but the bolts would loosen up every 5K miles causing more noise and fumes in the cab. I installed it at the same time as other mods, so I can't really say what adds to performance by itself.

Kyle, there really doesn't seem to be too much of a performance difference with the Manifold, at least that I can tell. I tow hot and heavy often and EGT's had become a problem with the manifold gasket like Alex said. And I also wanted to replace it before it shrunk enough to damage it.

Kev

Alex and dkevdog,

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of getting ther manifold for the faster spool up as advertised. If both of you cant really tell the difference, I might as well save some of my dollars. Thanks again. Kyle
