Installed an EZ and gauges in my 01. I read, here, that 1200 deg. temp. and 30lbs. of boost is what most guys got. I get 1100 deg. , and only 18 lbs. boost empty. Wow, what will my temps be when towing, 1500 deg. ? Boost may be low because I wasn't pulling anything, but what about the temp. , I understood , from discussions on tdr, that 1200 deg. temp was HIGH. Heck, I'll probably be way OVER that towing?? Sensor for temp. is installed on Ex. manifold . Do these numbers sound right??How high is high??

Should put in your signature so we can see what you have and help you out a little better.

when do you run 1100 temps, cruising? up hill, flooring it?

can you be a little more specific? do you have any other mods?

just trying to help and not being a wise guy but if can give more specifics others will be able to better help:)

Ditto last post, but sounds like your getting factory boost with added fuel. This results in higher EGT.

Others will surely expound on the EZ system, however as much as I've heard, it sounds like the boost elbow is not installed or you have air leaks somewhere in the turbo/intercooler/air inlet path.

Did you install the boost elbow (if your a manual) or modify the wastegate if your an auto? You need to "physically" defeat the wastegate so that you see 25 to 30lbs of boost which will in turn lower the temps. You'll see alot lower temps then.

If after you "up" the boost a bit you still have temps that high with only the EZ then you should look at the air filter (is it clean) and then check for boost leaks.

I installed the EZ with the boost elbow last weekend (finally received the 2002 adapters!) along with a Jardine 4" exhaust. The ETH/DEE ran 22 psi max boost and 1200-1250 degF max exhaust temps when towing stock. We had a short tow with the 5ver this week, and it looks like max boost is around 30 psi and the highest EGT I saw was only around 1000 degF.

I run empty up to 1100* floored flying up hill from dead stop, 1210* maxed out loaded=8000 lb trailer pulling 7% grade for about 6 miles with 28 psi boost maxed out. I have K&N filter.

Mostly around 800*-900* just running around empty.

egt temps

I installed the egt gauge exactly as told in the instructions. Truck has 2700 miles on it. Everything is new and CLEAN The readings I got were on flat ground, empty, floored. After letting up on the throttle temps came right down to around 4000. Still seemed high to me. But why wouldn't the EZ or the Gauge manufacturer tell you , you have to have a special this or that? All the EZ instructions stated on the first page is you should have gauges, which I now have. Boost is taken off the intake man. drilled and tapped. The wastegate take off was recommended secondly. EGT is taken off ex. manifold, natch. I can't believe this new a truck would have anything 'loose'. Even at that I did check the intercooler clamps etc. , when I put everything on. Ideas??Is all ok in mudville, or is there a problem??

You still haven't said if you changed the boost elbow (if your a manual) or delayed the wastegate if your an auto? Thats the missing part of the equation. You running more fuel with the same amount of boost. Take advantage of the addtional boost available and you'll lower your temps.

Have you "physically" done anything to wastegate on the turbo?

Egt's with EZ

Hemiville, the numbers you are getting are identical to the numbers I had before I modified the boost elbow [hardline on my truck].

I was getting 1150* egt and 19psi boost. this is with an Amsoil air filter. About 1200* with stock air filter.

When I 'fixed' the wastegate hardline, I got 30-32psi boost and dropped to less than 1000* egt. This is measured preturbo. I was very surprised at the drop in egt's, but it makes sense: a given amount of fuel, with more air is cooler than with less air.

I towed the other day, about 6500#, and uphill, WOT, accelerating, the highest egt I saw was about 975*, 30 psi boost. This was 70 -> 85 mph.

I'd double check the wastegate elbow, re 'fix' it yourself, so you know it is done right, then you will see much higher boost, usless a boot is off or something else is wrong:D :)

Enjoy the new power! Greg L

I've read in these posts that ETH runs higher egts.

Please see my prior post. After installing the EZ with the boost elbow, and in conjunction with the BHAF and Jardine 4" exhaust, my ETH isn't exceeding 1000 degF EGT pulling a 13,500 lb 5th wheel and running at 21,380 lbs GCVW (rated for 21,500 lbs). I think the key to this situation is that there appears to be insufficient boost (reportedly 18 psi) - I'm running 30 psi now.

That means that either the boost elbow that comes with the EZ wasn't installed (in the case of an HX-35), the wastegate wasn't otherwise disabled (in the case of an HY-35), there are leaks in the charge air system, or there are restrictions in the intake and/or exhaust systems. Give it the air, and the EGT's should drop.
