Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) EGTs exhaust

I recently installed a set of gauges on my stock truck. I noticed that while pulling a bobcat over the mountain egts reached about 1350. Since i want to add 275 injectors in the near future what must i do to lower egts enough to run the 275s? How much will a muffler elimination help?

4" exhaust and better air filter setup should do. What RPM were you pulling at? Below 2000RPM EGT's will rise a lot faster and higher.

Auto, 6spd, 5spd, ... Do you have any other modifications. Gives an idea.

The biggest reduction in EGT is going to be to increase the boost if you're stock. You could add an EZ (or similar box with boost fooler) with the boost elbow installed or (if an HY-35 turbo) the wastegate actuator turnbuckled and get a nice power increase plus lower EGT's as well.



You really don't give us enough information regarding the current configuration of your truck (ETC or ETH? Manual or automatic?) to help you much.

Go with an air intake and exhaust system, that should get you at or near 200 degrees reduction. The boost fooler will help as well. We sell most of our exhaust for the EGT temp reduction issues forlks have.

I checked EGT before and after installing 4" exh on my truck, under full load on our dyno. I lost 250*F across the entire opperating range, back PSI went from 65"H2O to 15"H2O at 3000 RPM. Money well spent IMO.

Magnaflow kit 15924

I put a Magnaflow Stainless Steel system on my 2001. 5 auto with 4:10's to lower EGTs, I will not be towing my 5er until spring, however towing the snowmobile trailer I think it has lowered temp quit a bit. Has not been over 1000 pre-turbo yet. Also picked up 1-2 lbs of boost, turbo spools faster, and engine seems to run "freer". The later second gen trucks went from mandel bent back to compression bent systems. It looked almost as bad as the system that came off my old 1993 CTD. And yes, the system my stepson gave me for Christmas had the 3. 5" down pipe, rest is all 4". No plans to bomb engine, so 3. 5" down pipe is ok for my truck. This system is only slightly louder than stock, which is good given my co-pilot. Fit really nice. Had a really nice guy name Jim at Ben Richards in Burlington, Wa tack weld all the connections after running it for a week. No DRONE and no rattles. SNOKING

Could you please explain what is meant by wastegate actuator turnbuckled?

Do a search on turnbuckle and you should find pictures and a material list to block the wastegate function. You will need a boost fooler as not to set any codes.
