Here I am

EGT's lower when accelerating than when holding...

My new diesel.....Mazda w/ 4 cyl. Perkins

New purchase torture.

28K in tow

Juice on Level 1-3

Stock turbo--man. trans.

Going up large hill, not a mtn. by any means, 1. 25-1. 5mi. long. Drop to 5th just to be nice to transmission. Once I floor it hard enough for boost to max out, EGT's drop 100* give or take, and stay there. If I let off or never floor it to begin with, EGT's keep rising, especially the post probe (I've got both). Attitude (pre) will show about 1100* and Autometer (post) will show 950-1000*. If I let temps go, Pre will be about 1200 and post over 1100 and climbing.

The problem is that with the go-pedal down far enough to keep things cool, I'm accelerating. Absolutely rocks that I can accelerate up this particular hill with that kinda weight in tow, but I wanna be nice to the rest of the drivetrain. I'd much rather just hold my speed or... heaven forbid... slow down a little, but EGT's get kinda high for my wimpy tastes. They will keep going to around 1300 or more if I let them, I just won't do it.

What's happening here? Is this perfectly normal? Has it taken me 4. 5yrs to finally figure out how to drive one of these things?

EGT #'s go up or down with the juice level, but overall effect is the same, although accelerating on level 0 is not as much of an issue. :-laf

EDIT: I've also got an Autometer 35psi boost gauge that seems to peg at 33psi. Attitude shows max of 33-34psi. I'm not sure what actual boost is. Time to trade dad for his 60psi gauge. He don't need it anyway, he's '03 with banks.

When I tow my 10Kpounder up a longer hill, egt's in level 1 can climb to 1350* easily :( If i put it too the floor 1500* and 40lbs. is not uncommon. Sometimes i wonder when that plastic IC will blow.
