I have an 06,610,48re,3. 73,4x4 2500 quad cab. I got some gauges for x-mass and finally put them in over the weekend. I drove it today for the first time and was suprised how easily I could reach 1250 degrees. the truck is stock with the exception of a 2'' leveling kit and 285/75/17 tires. I mounted pre turbo between the third and fourth cylinders. also 23psi max boost. the high temp today was 0 degrees Fairenheit. The trans gauge never moved probably because of the low out side temps. these are issopro gauges from diesel manor. (very nice kit) If these are the temps unloaded what would it be with a 10k trailer on a 90degree day? I would like to add a 50horse tst box but not sure what the temps would be like or would they actually go down?

Thanks to all

Check your filter minder. The stock air filters are very restrictive. I have the Cool Hose www.dieselpowerproducts.com and the Amsoil drop-in Nano filter.

It really gets good air without the restriction...

I also have a TST box set on 3-3 and never get past 1150 with this setup :D

Mine when it was stock: Boost spike at 30-31, up to 1450 if i floored it for long sprint, transmission temp norm between 140-180 (reading from the pan, not the line)... . IMHO your boost is low... . i'd check for leaks as well as check your airfilter / filter minder.

With the smarty on level 3 and my other mods (see sig)... . it's hard to get to 1250, other readings remain the same

I have had the exact same question on my mind for a month now. I installed the same gauge package from Diesel Manor(isspro, boost, pyro, trans) with the pyro preturbo between 3,4. I get a boost reading between 28-30. My transmission never goes above 130,outside temp 5f. What I'm suprised about is I can peg the pyro to 1250 on any hill I want,no load and compelety stock. SO,before I had gauges, this past summer I hauled my 40' 5er about 10 times, each trip I drove it like I stole it,always in tow/haul mode, right to the carpet up every hill I came to. The tach would drop to just below 2000 rpm before it would down shift and I gross 21,500 lbs(scale weight). I am very impressed with how the 48re hauls but what the H@## would my egts have been. This is all before Smarty.

I also have the Isspro gauges except no transmission temp as I have the std transmission. I have the pyro pre-turbo between 3/4. With the stock air filter I had what I would call high egt's as well. I installed the Cool Blue Hose, TAG, Amsoil drop in, and did the Cool Power Air Box mod to my intake air. My egt's dropped significantly, by 2-300*'s. From everything I have read thus far, and after having a conversation with the tech at my dealership, the 610's run hotter egt's than the 600's, so we seem to be on our own trying to understand what would be normal for these motors and our comparisons are kind of based on what each of us experiences. I have not been over 1K*s egt temp towing, since doing the intake air changes. Keep in mind that I am a pretty conservative driver and have not been WOT to get up a hill, I use my gears appropriately. I notice that when it's down shift time as the truck lugs a little, my egt's are getting a little higher, and when in the appropriate gear down, using less pedal they drop accordingly.

Since our real problem regarding engine temps involves the #5 and #6 cylinders in particular, and that also has to do with why we place the pyro where we do for temp knowledge, I have been considering installing a hood that would allow air to be ducted or directed toward the rear of the engine, that might give the block a little more cooling with regard to it's restricted ambient air flow by the proximity of the firewall and heat disssipation of the block.

You might re-think the hood idea. If to much air get`s into the eng. compartment behind the radiator, you could cause a coolant related high temp situation. The major air flow needs to be through the radiator to cool the coolant. You might also cause your coolant fan to work overtime with this type of mod for the same reason. This could cause poor MPG and premature fan failures. I`m not sure I would invest big money into a hood and have it be counter productive to the point of causing other problems that might not be healthy for other components of MY truck and it`s ability to stay cool and run at safe temps. Just a thought... Good luck :D

I've been dealing with a low boost and high EGT condition for about 2 months. If not for the gauges I'd think the truck is running normal. I'll hit 1400* fairly easily loaded. I couldn't break 25psi tonight, boxes on the shelf. I have a rail pressure gauge from geno's waiting to go in tomorrow. That might help shed some light.

I wouldn't worry the slightest about 1250*. A couple weeks ago I held mine around 1300* for about 20-30 MINUTES trying to get across ND against a ridiculous headwind.

sorry it took awhile for a reply i was out plowing last night till 2:30 this morning. I checked the air filter while looking a little dirty the restriction gauge has barly moved. I have not had a chance to really check anything else. It seems to run fine. I am going to double check the line for the gauge because they said if it is too tight it will restrict the gauge. I did try not to over do it but it might be more sensitive than i think.

ive always heard that these trucks run hotter that the older models. i hit 30psi when flooring it but it take alot of effort to hit 1300*. under normal driving i might see 1100* with my light trailer (3-4k) on a hill.

haven't found anything else yet 24psi is the highest with a 25psi spike. i think i have an injector issue. i have had ruff running(like pulling a spark plug wire)had a real hard start after sitting for a day with a lot of smoke. it was suppose to go in tonight. but it is suppose to snow again so i had to cancel.

My name is Jeff Brooks new guy to forum. I have an 06 2500 quad cab 4x4 auto with 3. 73's. I installed a SPA Techniques boost/egt gauge in mine when it was bone stock. The gauge is digital and has many features. It has a recall button which is a real nice feature. The max egt was 1326*. The boost had a spike of 35psi. I have never seen anything higher than 31 psi. on the gauge though. The 35psi must have just been a fluke. I was surprised of the high egt for a bone stock truck. I now have a PSM CoolPower kit, True-Flow filter,Cool Hose from Diesel Power Products, and Amsoil synthetic in the engine. The max egt after these mods was 1258*. Its real nice to know that these engines can handle upwards of 1400* though. Thanks alot.
