We just got home from camping, and a somewhat of a long drive home, now I remember how it feels to not be able to go the speed limit up the hills. Anyway, I seem to have gained about 200 degs from 750 to 950 cruising and I don't know how much top end it just keeps going, I tried to limit it to about 1200 on the hills. The only thing I can figure is my air filter is dirty, we went over memorial day and I had no problem, it is about 20-25 degrees warmer outside but I wouldn't think that would cause it to jump 200+.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

thermocouple taking a dump?

Maybe the thermocouple is going south on you.

I had one go bad on my '01 with the ISSPRO Pyro. Called DIS and they sent a replacement out right away.

Well it wasn't the air filter, cleaned it and had the same result, maybe it is the thermocouple, I just got home and the pyro said 700, the intercooler was cool enough to touch, I would say maybe 100-125 deg. Would that be right or would the engine and manifold hold that much heat?

I was going to suggest that your intercooler is clogged with bugs but if you can touch it that option is ruled out. If your temp at shutdown after idling isn't reading high I doubt the pyro is the problem. Since you say the filter is ok the only thing left is a exhaust restriction.

Do you have squirrels and pinecones around the home?;)

funny you say that now. . while i don't have the pinecones around my home, but at 6:45am or so when i climbed out of the basement [sleep down there. . cooler in summer] i here a racket in the fireplace in the family room. . still in a sleepy slumber, i walk towards it. the doors pop open and a stupid black squirril pops out and starts running around the family room and kitchen. damn thing hopped on the kitchen counter leaving black sooty prints around, then ran full on at the patio door, which was closed. [dumb little thing. . :( ] go over and open the door and it runs out. .

i know what i am doing monday. gotta make a new screen for the chimney. this was squrril # 3 and we have had 3 or 4 birds in there... the birds are bad. they leave soot on the celing. them cheap metal grils you can buy suck large. gonna make me one out of 3/8" rebar :D :D :D

Well I can't say I have anything that would cause a restriction in the exhaust. I wish I had some way to check the thermocouple up to that temp.

What about something in the fuel, this is the first time I have gotten fuel from this place, could there be water or something in it? I did get some horrible mileage, I guess I will fill up tonight and see if that helps.

Ok, I called and got the resistence numbers for the therocouple and it checked out, I filled up with new fuel,I cleaned and checked resistence on the AIT, and I can be almost 100% sure there is no blockage in the exhaust. But I still am hitting over 1300 on the top end, up from 1100.

Where do I go now???

See if you can borrow an infrared temp reader and check the exhaust manifold for any evidence of an imbalance in temps at each cylinder outlet.

This might indicate a leaking exhaust valve, low compression on one or bad injector.

Any smoke?
