Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Egt's with turbo mounted brake

Just finished installing a Jacobs brake tonight. After driving around empty with the comp on 1, I noticed the Egt's climb way faster than before and seem to top out 100-150 higher. I am wondering what is going to happen when I hook up the 5ver. Before I could tow with the comp on 1 with no egt problem. But if the temps are 100-150 higher empty, I might have to leave the comp off till I can get a Pdr35. Anyone notice significantly higher temps with a turbo mounted brake?

If you had the brake on, at idle you'd see much higher temps, but running, the brake would be off and temps should top out about the same as before. It almost sounds like your brake is not fully opening; I'd check the manual and see if there is an adjustment to the butterfly valve that might need to be made. At idle, brake off, do your temps drop back to 300 as quickly as before the install? If not, that would be another indicator that the brake is not getting fully open...

egt's w/brake

I just installed a Pac-brake last week, and can see no difference in egt's. You need to look at your installation and see if there are adjustments that need to be made. Ray

When I installed my eBrake I didn't notice any EGT change pre or post turbo. I am with HC, are you talking idle EGT?



When you go to let the turbo cool down, remember to turn the eBrake off or you won't get it cooled off.

Thanks for all the input. With the brake on at idle the egt's dont get below 450. But at idle with the brake off they seem to drop as fast as before. I am going to look into the adjustment and see if it is not opening all the way because with another day under its belt it is definately running hotter at cruising speed and above.
