Our trucks seem very similar, although you don't know which plate you are running... If you can't even get through a dyno run without backing off, then you must be running hotter than a #11 equivelant.

If you have the stock turbo housing, I would recommend moving to a larger one (16cm w/o wastegate). Right now, since you have a 4" exhaust, your egt bottleneck is the housing, trying to push too much exhaust through too little space (especially at high rpms).

Out of curiosity, is your clutch stock? If so, how is it holding up? I have my pump running a little weak low-end to keep the clutch in good working order. Anything hotter than a #11 is gonna be rough on your stock clutch.

Edit: What altitude are you at? When I was in the mountains in Colorado, I needed to change out afc springs to help keep smoke and egts in check

a bigger housing is just gonna allow him to go a little higher before he starts building "hot" boost. flow the head out, and put on a bigger turbo.

what turbo are you running?

what is your idea of too hot?

I am running a stock clutch and turbo. I'm sitting around 4000ft above sea level. As far as temps go, I back out of it at 1000 deg. post turbo.

I guess it will all depend on what your long-term plans are for your truck (in regards to Todd's suggestions). Todd is right though, a bigger turbo will help to solve your problem, but only if you are interested in upgrading. The stock HX-35 will be sufficient if you are content with the power you are currently making. If you want to go big, then a new turbo (HX40 or talk to Piers) should be on your list of goodies, however, a bigger housing and an AFC spring kit should do the trick with what you've got now.

Thanks for the suggestions. This decision will take some thought. I don't really need more power but I would like to use the fuel available to me.

How high are your egt's out of curiosity? I run some unbelievable egt's sometimes that make you thankful for those good ol' cooling nozzels in there :) On the way home from Muncie today for instance, pulling the 33' trailer, I was passing a big semi and my passing lane was running out and I was half way around him so I put them to the wall and got around him. I don't know how high they were (was too busy keeping the rig together) but when I glanced at the pyro as I was backing out of it it was coming off 1200*..... POST TURBO :--)

Not sure about how deeply you feel about our EGT's,, but for a 30 second dyno run unless you are seeing 2000* + you probably won't hurt much.

On my personal truck I can get 1600* by just putting my foot down.

I have 95K on my truck. Short bursts of High EGT are acceptable, sustained runs of high EGT can be caastrophic.

Isn't Cummins Spec on EGT 1200* ? Pre-Turbo

I'm outta my league over here,, I have to many Valves,, but just thought I'd give my $. 02

 oops, sorry I didn't catch that earlier post where you stated the egt you're backing out of it. It's my understanding Merrick is right (even though he is overvalved :p ) a short burst of high egt isn't a problem.
