2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Eight ball shifter...?

Sounds corny but I'd like to get me an 8 ball shifter. I'm looking for a regulation size ball that has the right threads. Anyone know where I could find one? The ones I've seen are either smaller size or have plastic thread adapters. Or, how hard would it be to drill and tap one?

maybe for reiforcement you could heli-coil it or use nutserts

I drilled an old cue ball and put a time-sert in it. Worked great. I think the threads are 10mm-1. 50 but I could be wrong. The time-sert is better in my opinion than the heli-coil because it is solid.

Yup. That's how we used to do it with 8-balls, draft beer handles, you-name-it in our muscle cars in the 70's. Drill & nutzert or just epoxy (JB Weld works) a nut in a larger hole. My buddy put a tapped and threaded steel plate insert in a latex boob even though I kept telling him it was bad for the shift forks to constantly rest his hand on the shifter... :-laf I still have a couple of old Hurst T-handles and was going to use them on my Dodge. They just feel good in your hand. You're limited only by your imagination. .

I bought an 8-ball on ebay for a few bucks and drilled & tapped it. I just screwed it on. It comes loose occasionally and I'm sure the plastic threads will eventually wear out but it's been on there for a few years now.

I made a 7-ball shifter years ago and just drilled and tapped it. . Was pretty easy... Man now that I think of it, that was 20 years ago... .
