Spearfish got eight inches of snow last night. Interstate was closed. Lots of cars in the ditch. Also had to deny a transfer to Regional Hospital due to the dangerous roads. Just wasn't safe to send an ambulance crew that far last night.

Seems a little nuts to have finished college classes last week with everyone ready for summer and it being almost 80 degrees and to come home and be working ambulance in 30 degree weather and dealing with almost a foot of snow.

Good news is it is supposed to be back up to the 70's by tomorrow.

Welcome to South Dakota, if you don't like the weather wait five minutes and we'll change it for you.

I remember the days of childhood when I lived in Gillette,WY! Especially May of 88 when we got like 13 foot of snow and we had to sled out our 2nd story window to shovel the doorways open. I recall still having snow on the 4th of July and it was about 95 degrees out. Never cared for the weather as a child but I sure do miss living there now... . wish my parents had stayed out that way. I have always considered going back that way and living in Newcastle or closer to Spearfish so I could spend my retirement fishing at Keyhole Lake.

I remember that snow storm in 88. It was two weeks after that I quit the paper route I had since I was in 6th grade and said I ain't doing that anymore. Couldn't believe we had that much snow when it was supposed to be "summer". Seems like we never get the really huge snowfalls like we did back in the eighties.

Spring time in the Rockies...

Yep, It's snowing out here in Frisco as I type. Still some great skiing to be had at A-basin! Won't be "spring skiing" for a while. Always a goal of the Legend to be open and skiing on the 4th of July. Just might make it this year!

Lovin’ life at 10,000 feet!

Ahhh... . I don't think this thread is about THAT kind of snow. Opps, my bad, not San Fransico.

Actually, I must confess I caught myself grousing about the snow/sleet/rain AGAIN this morning as I wandered out to the pickup to go chuck another round into the wood stove and boot the girls (border collies) out to grapple with the elements. (Actually, they love it. )

Thinking about how nice it probably was around Loa-Teasdale-Lyman-Torrey-Boulder-Escalante, UT where I was a week and a half ago and that in mid-May it must be even nicer with flowers blooming and such. Heck, how many summers have I edured the good pleasure of a snow storm every month of the year, too many.

Fortunately, I came to my senses just in time with a "Pshaw, them places are for women and small children. " Heck, soon enough I'll be pulling a short string up to an alpine lake to take water samples, then me thinks it'll be worth it. ;)

Hey Trail Dog where did you hit out there this year did you do any good slots. Heading to the San Rafeal Swell first week of June. Gonna try and do both upper and lower Black Box Canyons in addition to whatever else looks good while we are there.

Yes but you need it out there. Aren't you still in one worst droughts and severely lacking rainfall or snowfall?. I heard today on the Weather Channel in some parts of the Black Hills this was the first time the snow plos have been out all year. All I can say is this,I like looking at it on the Tv but please keep it there,LOL... ... . Andy

Yeah, going on six straight years of "drought" conditions. My father-in-law was almost ready to sell of the majority of his cattle, but now thinks he may have enough in his stock ponds and on his grazing land up in the hills to be ok.

BarryG,

No slots this year. Yesterday Curt sent me a link from the BZ paper about the two young fellas who met their untimely demise in Choprock. Instead we decided to explore a different means of conveyance. I was great not to have to hump a pack 70 miles down the Escalante :) . We had a bank-full layover day; the same day as the flood happened hear SLC. We had showers most days of the trip.

However the "girls" took a bit to get their sea legs. Usually, it was real slow motion getting into the IKs and if you know how to read BC body language it was:"
Well, :( ... okay I'll get in if you insist, but I want you to know there definately isn't consensus here about the chosen mode of travel. I'm only doing it because I got to keep up the "dog is man's best friend" and "faithful ol' Shep" image.
After a while they got use to it, but they much preferred the evening hike to the top of the canyon for a look see.

When's it not snowing in Frisco? :p

Dateline 10 June 2005, Summit County, Colorado 1525 (3:25 for you civies :-laf )

Snowing at a good rate right now. According to the National Weather Service:

THE SNOW LEVEL WILL BE AROUND 10 THOUSAND

FEET WITH A COUPLE INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATING AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING

BUT END DURING THE NIGHT.

I am at 5300' and my heat is set at 66* It woke me up twice last night wondering what that noise was

Probably due to the global warming

In our area the weather has been sucky all spring. . . WIND WIND WIND WIND WIND! At least we're getting needed rain but outdoor stuff has been a PITA.

Normally we're hitting in the 90s on a regular basis, 100 when it's hot, but this year we've only seen 90+ Memorial Day weekend.

I am not too familiar with your state, but isn't it noted for getting a lot of rain?

As much as I like the snow, I would welcome a humid 90 degree daY right now!

Not on the SE side, typical is 6" rain per year. Climate is totally different than the west side and Seattle. We have sagebrush & sand, they've got trees & moss ;)

In my opinion WA has some very nice areas -- on the east side of the Cascades. Ellensberg reminds me of something in MT - minus the frozen butt. Then there is Wenachee, Walla Walla Walla, and Levensworth. Theses are the big places, there is a whole bunch of smaller places that are even nicer, me thinks.

Edit: Opps it's Yakima, not Walla.
