Electric Brake Controller

I have read that my 1997 2500 4X4 has some pre-wiring from the factory for an electric brake controller. I am in need of installing one can anybody give me advice as to the best unit to purchase and any info on what wiring is already there 'vs what wiring I will need to run myself, if I decide to do it myself. and any recommended mounting locations. Thanks

When I got my truck back in April 02, In the glove box was a harness and a fuse(I forget tha amp) along with directions on how to splice into harness under dash. Ask your dealer about it,if you didn't get one they might have forgotten it. Did your truck come with a factory installed hitch,thats when you get it.

I don't know if you have already bought a brake controller, but Prodigy has a harness you can buy that has a plug on both ends. For the 2003's, the part number is 3020, I don't know if the second gens are the same or not. Just plug it into the Dodge plug and plug the other end into the Prodigy.

Second Gens have a plug under the dash, specifically for ebrake systems. My Tekonsha camsee with a plug, all I had to do was cross reference the wiring to the plug that came with the controller, and the underdash harness. Easy. . just don't match the wire colors , read the instructions. Really easy.

Brake Controller

I have used "Draw-Tite" controllers with great sucess. They are small and can even be mounted like mine, with Velcro. Keeps it snug against the dash on my left and away from my knee.

The wiring jumper (in your glove compartment) connects easily to a socket/terminal under the dash near the steering column. Then, just follow the controller instructions and match the NAMES not the colors. The circuit has a 40-amp fuse, so yo will be set. Good luck!

I have been very happy with my drawtite ACTIVATOR III... it mounts up under the dash, and has a remote you plug into it whe needed... I like it, because I set it to the trailer I am pulling, then I can take the remote out and you never know its there!

I've used the ramped time-based as well as the inertial controllers. With the Jordan, after the initial setup what you want is what you get - your right foot controls the trailer braking. No twiddling with settings as road conditions or speed change.



Yeah, it costs a little more, but the best usually does.

I agree with Rusty. I went through them all and settled on the Jordan. Since I have ElectroHydraulic brakes, the inertia ones wouldn't respond right, the Prodigy failed.

If you ever are going to upgrade your trailer or its brakes, consider the Jordan
