I don't know if someone has posted this already, but I would like to know if there are Electric Cooling fan setups for my 04'??

I would like to get rid of the engine driven fan.

yeah, I was pondering this as well. Something that's controlled by the fan clutch electronics would be perfect.
 
There was considerable discussion on electric fans some time ago. The consensus was they were adequate if the truck wasn't used for towing. If towing was required of the vehicle the stock fan was capable of moving more air.
 
i run one off a lincoln town car , it will drop to 140 when idling for about 5 minutes in 70 deg weather . . running 80 mph it doesnt matter if its off or on it stays @ 200 i dont two nothing so have no clue on that but daily driven i hardly ever turn it on

I had went to electric fans on a gasser once, but went back. No matter which brand you use, you can not pull air through the whole radiator like the factory set up, you will have areas that the fan does not cover, there for reducing you cooling efficiency.





Some thing else to consider, what is the amp draw on your fan or fans?? If you are trying to reduce your engine load, the increased amp draw will make the alternator work harder creating more load.
 
I tried a dual puller Flex-a-Lite Model 350 electric fan setup on my 1996 3500 used for 5th wheel towing. This replaced the engine-driven fan, cost over $450 back then, and was quickly pulled off and put in the attic. :(



The problem is this: The puller fans drew 50 amps and could pull the battery down when idling with the lights and A/C on in less than 30 minutes. 50 amps, however, at 12 volts = 600 watts, and 600 watts is only 0. 8 HP. Less than 1 HP will NOT move enough air to cool the engine when it is working hard (towing a heavy 5th wheel up a long grade in hot weather; towing a 5th wheel in summertime temperatures in Houston traffic, etc. )

Could you change the engine fan to something less aggressive (noisy) and eliminate the clutch to make it full time?

What I was wondering is if there are any fan clutches available that can be switched on or off. I know on our 330 Peterbilt there is a switch that turns the fan on, or on auto. I know this is an air clutch but could something like this be adapted to our engines and if so, be setup where the swithch turns it off, or where it cycles automatically. Just thinkin out loud.

HORTON used to build an electric fan clutch for the Dodge/Cummins applications.

Any idea if an 03 Vistronic fan will fit an 02? I could even set up a electronic thermostat on / off // switch on / off like the 03's just not run it through the ECM. Might be an answer to the VP44 cooling issues.

From an older post I found....

I talked to Bob at Flexlite today and they are right now testing a kit for 1994-2002 Dodge's. On three trucks in three area's.

If all test well kit will be ready 01/2007

Have been running electric fans for 3years

Have towed 10,000lbs through the Appalacians if I keep the boost over 20psi on long climbs, no over heating. If it drops below 20psi there isn't a fan out there that will cool it down. Probably fueling a little hard. In daily driving the electric fans work great.
 
Seems to me I read on here about using the Horton. You might do a search and see what you find. What I remember but don't quote me on this is Horton had fans for Dodge trucks up to I think 2000. For the 2001 you could use the older model but had to do some modifications to make it work. I was going to do it but did not have the $'s at the time and never got back to it. You would think with all the big rig's out there a electric fan would be available that pulls enough air for our trucks but I guess not!!!!!
