jsut wanted to let anyone that is interested know i jsut installed an electric assist fan over half of my transmission cooler. i have been told that the temps i have seen are well within the limits of the auto transmission but personally i jsut wanted to keep them as cool as possible, and besides i found a 9" fan on the net for $25, so i almost couldnt go wrong. then i jsut hooked it up to a toggle switch so i can jsut turn it on when i am sitting in traffic when i cant control the temps. on the open road i only see about 120 degrees on the out line of the transmission. i hope it works as well as i think it will.

Perfect timing

Bandit,

I have been looking on the net for a fan that would fit over the transmission cooler too. Seems like you were quicker than I. :) We have almost identical trucks, so how did you mount the fan... ??? As a pusher or puller? What brand is it and how many cfm do you think it is rated for?

Sorry to bombard you but I have been very interested in performing this mod. My temps have seen 300+!!! Yikes!

Thanks, Steve.

HOLY I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER, 300+ i have only seen 210 while stuck in traffic on a 95 degree day. jsut one ? for you, what kind of convertor do you have? i dont mind the questions at all, i enjoy doing whatever i can to help out a fellow member. my fan i got from asset manufacturing, at www.assetmfg.com, i mounted the fan alittle high on the transmission cooler, there is about 3/4 of the fan over the cooler but this also helps bc i wired it up to run only when i want it to so i didnt want to restrict to much airflow while i didnt have it on. i mounted it as a pusher fan and it jsut barely fits between the grille and the cooler, as of now i jsut mounted it with a few wire ties but i plan on making a more permanent bracket when i get out of college for the summer on may 8th. i am not sure how much cfm it pushes but it really spins fast and moves some air. on their website they have the fan listed at $73 but i called and said they were having a close out on the 9" fans for only $25, so call both of their numbers, their are hard to get ahold of. any more questions feel free to ask.

Holy boilover batman, it's going to blow!

I have the stock tc and vb but i'm due for a trip to BC to see Bill K and the boys on the 21st of this month for some mods. I tried the link but it didn't work. I'll see if I can do a search and pick up the web site. 25 bones doesn't sound that painful at all. I hope I can catch them today and get the fan coming before i leave for Canada.

Yea, I was profusely sweating and swearing going up that 16% grade out of Napa and wished I had the 2-low switch installed so I could have made it into 3-lock while in 4wd low position. That would have kept things in check some. Those first two gears are a couple of slipping, heat producing buggers when they are stock.

In time, it will run like ice. I have a water mister system installed over the radiatiors now but without the main viscus fan running, there isn't enough airflow through the trans cooler to remove the heat. The engine runs cooler than the transmission all the time, no supprise there. If you want a schematic or pics of it, send me an email and I will post them your way. I haven't figured out how to post pics on here yet.

Later, Steve.
