I'm wondering if electric fans can be done on either a 2005 or 2006 Cummins? Has anybody achieved this already or know of any kits available? Thanks.

This has been discussed at length in the past and some have done electric fans with some success, but these were mainly guys with 2nd Gen trucks which didn't have as good of fan control as the newer rigs have. But for anyone living in a hot climate and/or tows with much regularity the electric fans aren't going to cool like the stock fan, and that's even more true of the 04. 5 and newer trucks.

Where electrics have worked well is adding airflow over the AC condensor and set up to come on when the AC is activated. This helps out the AC system during stop & go driving, and may help out the cooling system a tad.

Vaughn's rite (as usual ;) ) electrics will never move as much air as the stocker does but it would sure be nice to be able to add an electric for the A/C and heavy hill climbing.

i think there is enough room between the rad and the aftercooler to slip in a dual low profile fan setup. . not sure how it will effect cooling when the fans are not powered [should freewheel ok so]

I think gshail (sp) did this with a set of NAPA dual fans. I never saw an update from him to tell us how it worked out though. So if you do it tell us how it works out for you... . please

I have installed a couple of sets of the Napa fans. There is just enough room between the grille and condenser to fit. Wired it to the A/C clutch relay so it came on when the clutch was engaged. Mainly did 03-04 California units because the stock fan would not run before the coolant temp reached about 140 degrees. They finally had a flash that corrected the problem.

Yes he did, he slid them between the radiator and the IC IIRC. kinda tight fit, but they are in there. Seemed to help him out when extra cooling is needed, think he also installed a 180* TStat to help matters some.

i saw gshail's set up when i was in salt lake, it looks good, if i had the time i would do it to mine. i think for the sled puller or racer it would yield some more hp Oo.

I've installed a few fan sets on gasser with some success and failures. In a rough environment (hot climate with A/C & towing) I'd stay with the stocker. I can't imagine any electric setup to pull enough to keep things cool.

Just curious, why bother the conversion? And if there is a gain in mileage (for example) is it worth it? My gut tells me not but... ... . people who've done it can tell the truth I guess!

Ok thanks men I just know a guy that just bought a used 03 with duals and wondered if it was worth it. On the front pusher fans how much does it affect/help the A/C? I live in south texas, also wouldnt fans in front restrict flow pulled by the OEM fan?

I bought my 98 12v new and soon after I installed a Horton fan clutch. The Dodge dealers did sell them but I saved some bucks by going to a parts store that specializes in such like. The fan that came was one blade more than factory and it works off the heat of the engine (thermostat) and is also hooked to the A/C. There is also an override switch that makes it work when it does not want to. I tapped in to the harness and added a small LED light so I would know when it was running. The idea was to save fuel and maybe it does in a smaller amount than is noticeable. I like the idea the engine does not have to turn the fan but I wonder if the engine would ever know the difference. I have done many things to improve the truck but for the cost involved it has turned out to be not worth it. -- email address removed --

I wonder if big rigs with 600HP run electric fans pulling 80,000# loads such as the Horton that they would be feasible for our trucks and benefical. I doubt a big rig owner/operator would ever have anything that would not be a plus say for mileage gains or increase in HP to the rear wheels. This does not mean I am going to add one but have thought about it just have not been able to justify the $'s as they are expensive. Not nsure the gains to $'s makes sense.

That is a nice piece... . hope it has provisions for the coolant recovery bottle and the washer fluid reservoir. Looks like it did, but it didn't say specifically.

just wanted to let you know flex a lite will be offering a dual fan setup in early dec 06 the model is 262 it is on their web site under new items
