Has anyone tried to use an electric fan for radiator cooling? Seems like this could be a way to pick up a few horsepower. If there is an electric fan large enough to push the required air, the factory fan could be removed. Any thoughts on this?

Im doing this to the Power Wagon. I don't think you can get enough airflow with the electric fans. The biggest fans make about the same airflow as the standard fan does at a mildly fast idle. That's not enough for the intercooler and radiator too.

I agree, it's a great idea, but not practical because of physics. My friend had to buy a new fan for his PSD, and it said "7 HP" stamped right into the blade. I figure the cummins fan is real close. You're just not gonna match that with 12V electric motors powered by the alternator.

Just my $. 02 worth of conjecture.

Thanks Powerwagon.
I kind of suspected that the electric fans wouldn't work and thats why I commented about if they made a large enough fan. Oh well, that answers that question!
Thanks again

a single 14" fan is plenty enough for the enginer, but not for the air conditioning. I'm going to add a seconf fan for the air conditioning and see if that works.

I don't think 2 14 inchers would be anywhere near enough for the engine alone. I have a single 16 inch electric on the PW, and it isn't anywhere near up to the task of cooling the engine if you're working hard going slow. I'm going to upgrade to a 12 and a 16, and from 2 to a 4 row core radiator AND 6 inches more width on the core. The radiator guy said he thought that might be enough... might... #ad

BTW, the best prices I've found on fans are at Schucks - Imperial brand, american made. The fan is a bit noisy, but not enough to be a pain.

The only hills we have are at bridges and around Orlando, but with a 2700 pound Lance slide-in camper aboard, and pulling a 34' Avion or my motorcycle trailer, my engine temp never even hits the halfway mark. The AC blew the popoff valve though at extended idle. Of course I haven't installed the intercooler yet, and that could have an effect. But I only have a single fourteen inch cheapo fan at present.
