electric fuel gauge

Well I finally got my guage in ( stewart warner) and it doesn't work???
I have a good ground to the guage and sending unit.
12v to the hot post marked(igintion switch) The sending unit post on guage(marked sending unit) shows 10v.
The needle on the guage show about 8. 5
It was on that number when I put it in.
The sending unit was in stalled using hex stud at base.
All wires have good connection.
Any ideas or suggestion
could it be a bad guage or sending unit
what does your guage read when power is put to it?

Sounds as if your gauge is no good. Mine read 0 when I received it and when I put power to it it reads the presure at the time, ie: 0 if it's been sitting for some time and something in between if recently shut off. Have about 8 psi when first turn on key and 14. 5 running.
