Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use an electric fuel pump for delivery of diesel fuel to the injector pump and primming after a fuel filter and prefilter change and if so does anyone manufacture a pump for diesel fuel. I know that on the 1998 or 99 and up that they have an electic priming pump. Any imformation you can give me on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bill, not really answering your question, but as long as you fill the filter with fuel and open the bleed screw on top it takes very little pumping with the hand pump on the lift pump to get things primed and air free. Some folks use a dowel or part of broom handle to push the primer, saves your thumb and gives you a longer reach.

Bill,

There is another thread in this forum, "12 valves are hanicapped" [sic] by Ted Jannetty in which he discusses his search for an electric fuel pump to replace the current lift pump. If he is successful, and I would guess he will be, that would be a good way to go when one is looking to fix a malfunctioning lift pump.

i have been reasearching this subject on the properly valved side #ad
... the carter pump as of now is the only pump rated to flow continuiously at the rated 15psi , all others being sold for gassers are rated to 13 , 14 even 18 psi , but are not designed to run continuiously , plus they must be regulated down to 7-8 psi ,this will not work in our application ...

the problem with the stock lift pumps on the 24V's is the location , i talked to carter and they told me it must be within 3 feet of the tank /fuel pickup , the location in the 24V's has it drawing thru 5 or 6 feet of line , this is what is killing the pumps .

if you add an electric pump, install it close to the fuel pickup , carter has a pump P4601HP 100 gph at 15psi , this may be a pump to consider .

question , what is the inlet pressure requirement of a 12V ??? if its higher than 15psi ignore my ramblings .
