Has the freeze plug issue ever really occured? I guess I'm having trouble getting over the idea it can, as that means the cooling system was designed with very marginal tolerances. What kind of rpm does it take to force the plugs out? It seems a high revving gas engine would have the same issues?

I lost the back one at around 3500, nothing like pulling the transmission to fix a freeze plug. After that I pull everyone and loctited' them in.

Thanks for the update, it just amazes me that the plugs can pop out.

The electric pump rotates at a given speed, no variation. Was it designed for stationary equipment such as a constant speed genset or water pump? It seems there would be to much flow at idle vs. to slow of flow at higher rpm. At idle where does the excess volumne go?

Thanks for the update.

A friend of mine just lost the back one, as Jim stated what a PITA to have to pull the trans. Good thing i didn't have to get dirty LOL

As for the belt, if you are doing short performance runs (sled pull, or dragstrip) You could even take the belt off of the engine. Let the batteries power the water pump & such, No fan to turn, no alternator, You still have power sterring & power brakes, sounds like a cool idea to me..... P

No the power steering is belt driven which also supply's the brakes. (on the newer trucks anyway, I'm having a brain fart on the older 12v's)
