Does any brake controller manufacturer still make an electric trailer brake unit that is activated by hydrualic presure from the brake system and can one be put on my 96 or isnt it reccomended with abs brakes . Infact i bought this truck used and im not sure if it even has abs. . Arnie

No body makes the hyd operated brake controlers anymore. They will not work with antilock brakes and virtually everything since about '89 has antilocks. Pity, the hyd operated ones worked better than these new ones.

thats too bad as i agree with you that they did work better ,if a guy could find one it might be worth mounting up a small hydraulic brake master cyl. unit just for the trailer brakes actuater . i was looking at my owners manual and i think i only have abs on the rear brakes so why couldnt i put the sensor on the line going to the front brakes if i could find one . I think the guy i sold my old ford to might still have it on the truck and he doesnt need it ... Arnie

There is a type of brake controller that uses a cable down to the brake pedal linkage so the controller can be adjusted to work with the amount of pressure you apply. You still have electric brakes on the trailer but they are much easier to balance with the truck's brakes. Most controllers use a pendulum to sense the brake effort. I don't know the name of the controller, but have seen one in person, also they have been mentioned here. I think it was merryman who said he has one.

Illflem ,(god did you have a bad head cold when you picked that handle ha) i believe that it is cald a Jordan Ultima ,im going to look into this one as it makes the most sense with out a direct hydraulic connection. . Arnie

Arnie, my handle came when I used my name on a website log on before reading the rules, seven letters max, no capitol letters, it came back illflem and I just kept it. My daughter hates it, says it sounds sick.

I think the Jordan Ultima is a good choice, if I have it to do again I'll probably go for one.

I have just installed the Jorden and taken two trips with the Fifth wheel. It is awesom, works the way a brake controller should. Highly recomended. Also installed the isolater from Hellraising Technology, after burning out two of the regular ones. Seems to work well.

I have the Jordan Ultima 2020 sitting on the shelf waiting to install on the new truck. :D Our RVing friends who have them say they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, so we decided to try one.

Jordan Research Corporation's sales line is 800-533-0306. If you call, chances are you'll be talking to Jordan himself. :)
