2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Electrical connector on top of fuel module?

As I posted already, I replaced the sending unit on my fuel module.



I had no problem removing the two fuel lines from the fuel module but cannot figure out how to disonnect the electrical connector. I did slide the little red tab over but still couldn't get it to release. Luckily I had enough slop in the wiring to lift the module out of the tank.



I would just like to know for future reference if anyone could explain?

Anyone got an idea as to how to disconnect this connector? Several of you have posted that you got it free by moving the red tab, mine still wouldn't come apart.

after moving the red tab did you press on the release? just moving the red tab doesnt release the connector. mark

I don't know where the release is. There was a tab that lifted towards the rear and it broke off but I still couldn't get it to allow the connector to release. I didn't see anything else.

If memory serves, the red lock just releases the squeeze portion of the connector allowing you to squeeze it together to release. Maybe it was unlocked already and you locked it with the red tab? Stranger things have happened. I had a problem with getting the fuel line to go back together! Took me a long time and I was beginning to doubt my mechanical abilities!!! Ken Irwin

I tried with the red tab in both directions. It was like the connector was glued together. I'm an electronics engineer, been working with weird connectors for over 20 years, this one is tough. I didn't want to screw it up cause then I would have that much more of a problem to deal with.



I think if I have to replace the sending unit again I might cut the wires and put my own connector in series with that one and then it will be easy to get apart.



The only other reason I was worried about it was because I was suspecting a bad connection with that connector since my sending unit didn't work until I pulled the module out the second time.



So far it's okay, and I hope it will stay that way for a few years.

Ken, Yes the gauge is working okay now.



I just saw your other post about the orientation, that could have been the problem I was having with mine cause once I opened it up and re-seated it, it was fine.



Makes sense now that I think about it cause the float did go up a little and acted like it was hung up on something (gauge read about 1/4 tank). Thinking about the way the float is mounted it would take much for it to hit the side of the tank.

This is an old thread, but just ran into the same problem with my 99. I ended up totally removing the red tab and then pulled the connector apart. The red tab is apparently a locking tab.
