With a small load on the electrical system, say the brake lights on, my temp and oil pressure gauge go to "high" and the volt meter goes down to about 9. With a turn signal on, they dance in cadence with the signal. At night, with the dash lights on, you can notice a dimming when the brake lights are applied.

I checked the battery voltage: 12. 6 w/ engine off, and 13. 38 at idle, and 13. 41 with everything on: high beams, brake lights, and turn signal. There is no resistance in the negative cable.

I did not change/fix/repair anything recently to cause this. Any ideas of what to check would be appreciated!

Sounds like time for you to clean some body grounds. the grounds for your dash are located behing you OD/Cargo Light panel. They are screwed on the metal braces behind the dash If you drop the access panel under the steering column and look behind your OD switch you will see three wires going to the one screw. Remove the crew and sandpaper the metal where the screw went threw and clean the terminals on the wires to.

You need to clean the small ground wire coming off the battery negative terminal to raditor support. This is the body ground. The cable going to the engine is not to be trusted for body ground. The engine is rubber mounted.

Let us know if this helps.

If you tow a trailer or use a wench on the truck. Run a heavy cable from the engine block to the frame. This will provide a good ground path. The little 10ga wire that is on the battery cable is not enough for a larger trailer or wench app's.

Hey Philip- where does one find one of those wench apps for a first gen? Oo. :D :p :-laf

Allright, allright. Leave one little letter out and all the potty minds jump all over it.

Everyone replace wench with wrench. LOL

Like the old song goes. "Down on the corner" LOL

Hmmm, something older than BOB? The last I heard was the archaeologists at the University of Washington follow Bob around so they can study a living fossil.

But I wouldn't imply that Bob was old or anything like that. That would be rude.

Sorry,,, I don't know what came over me.

he he eh?

Yea. Then it turned into a spelling bee.

Then it got turned into name that tune. :D

Then pick on the old folks time. Which I happen to be one also. :(

But as soon as Scot gets back after doing what I mentioned. We will jump right back on track then. (I hope). :D

Philip- My wife said she would divorce me if I ever got a wench, so that's not the problem here. (I'm happily married, so no wench needed. ) Good pointer on the additional ground cable though; I'll remember that.

As far as the electrical problem, that was the easiest fix I've ever done! Thanks Philip for the specific instructions... I went right to the connection. The nut was loose as a goose (from an accessory install years ago)! Tightened it and problem solved!:D

This is a great board, thanks to all for the help. Bruce, I'll keep your problem/fix in mind.

"... ... One shot one kill... ... "... ya right, only when you use duct tape and lash the thing to your barrel... .

BTW, I'm going to go with a bad ground... ;):D:);)
