I've dug around and can't seem to figure out the interior lite.

The map lite over the consol works fine, with switch and doors but the overhead doesn't work. I've tested it with a VM and only get 4V across the terminals :confused:. Now I have traced it back to under the dash near the E brake, but I don't know what else to try or do from here...

I've pretty much thrown in the towel. :{

Again, any help appreciated. Its darn dark in there!!

Dome Lamp

Dome light problems can be rather anoying to trouble shoot beacause they are wire different from most of the other circuits on a vehicle. Bare in mind that the ground circuit is switched and the positive is on all the time. So first check the voltage at the lamp socket connector to a chassis ground. You should see full battery voltage on the black and yellow wire to ground. The power source for the dome lamp also powers the map light, the glove box light, cargo lamp and power mirrors, so if they work you should have power. The ground circuit runs from the dome lamp to the door switches and the map light, since the map light works, the door switches should be ok, so the problem has to be between the map light and dome lamp. Where I think you will find the problem is under the driver's side carpet. The dome lamp wiring runs under the carpet near the seat about a third of the way from the door frame to the transmission hump. This means your that left foot rests on top of the wiring, as well as it getting damp from the carpet. When I replaced the seats and carpet in my truck a few years back, the under padding/ noise insulation was rather wet. I also had to repair a few of the wires, running under the carpet, as the insulation was missing in a few spots. Doesn't take long for salt to eat through bare copper. Hope this helps, have got to run now.

Once again Thanks!!

Neil,

Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely pull the carpet up and see whats up with the wiring. My carpet is a little moist and door sill plate is a little corroded. Now the green connector under the dash near the ebrake has that wiring in it right?? I found the cargo lite wire (black pink stripe) and it works so I should be able to pull the plug and test the resistance values to each wire or not??

Seems that the wires changed color. At the light socket the wires are green and white, there aren't any wires colored that on the harness connector. The speaker wires are the other connector.

I'll do some more pokin around #ad
and let you know how it turns out. LOL

Canadian Connection Comes Thru Again!!!!!

One Case of beer for Neil!!!#ad

Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

That was the problem. . The junction behind the seat the loom takes a 90 after letting off some wires for the seatbelt warning. Just about an inch after that there was a green blotch in the loom, the black-yellow stripe wire was broken!!!!

I disconnected the connector under the dash and read the resistance, found one side of the light socket wire with 7 Mohm????? Then went to the wires coming down the C pillar and 0 Ohms. Ok break between the C pillar and the connector. Just narrowed my search with a circuit tester to pierce the wire and read resistance. Found the break and repaired in about 45 min!!! Used some liquid electrical tape on all the holes punched in the wires.

Electrical GURU, I bow in your presence.
