Just installed boost and egt gauges, I utilized a "add a circut" for the gauge lighting which worked just fine. The egt unit wiring is the problem no matter where I connect, fuse block or battery direct, or where I ground to, when I use anything electric except radio I get feed back to the egt gauge? brakes make it jump, lights 0 it out, door locks or electric window weird it up too,

I am going to take it to a electrical shop and look for shorts!!!

Any help?

What make is the gauge?. No power to the gauge right?, just thermocouple wiring. Only power is for the light?.

Sounds like you may have a bad ground for the dash. There is a body ground out by the batteries next to the radiator. Also I have had to pull my dash apart and tweak the plug to the dash as the ground pin got loose causeing the same problems. Sounds like you probably don't have a short as much as a poor ground. Its good enough for some stuff, but not all at the same time.

The pyro should be electrical, right?

Im back

tried several grounds on the dash and in the engine compartment. pulled all the grounds I could find and sanded clean and retried.

I got power but its not clean. brakes or lights etc, zero the egt power out, the lighting is uneffected in the gauges, just the egt power. it works untill I use any electrical.

THANKS FOR the quick response guys.

that sounds kinda like the problem i haven't yet figured out with my tach. it works much *better* when my foot is on the brake pedal, or when i turn the head lights on. otherwise it's bouncing all over the place. especially when the turn signals are on.

sorry i'm no help here, but i'm an electrical dummy.

There should be no power wiring on the Pyrometer other than for the light. The two wires on the gauge hook to the thermocouple and thats it, it just works.

AUTO METER GAUGES

my egt has 1 black and white pair for lighting and 1 pair, red yellow for thermocouple and 1 pair res black for power to thermocouple. I got a new light switch to day for $30 at NAPA and I got a place to find and fix electrical shorts for $35.

I spent the whole weekend trying to find the problem and my egt still all over the place, so's it's CHEEP.

thanks Rock
