Does anyone have an idea what would cause the radio display to light up with an FM freq even when the radio is turned off and ignition is switched on or on accessory? The clock will not display the time in anycase, and when the ingition switch is turned I can the speakers making a single THUMP sound as if someone were to tap a hot microphone once. None of the buttons or controls do anything at this point. The rest of the time the display won't even light up. This just occurred for the first time last night when I went out to work on the top o-ring in the fuel heater even before I popped the hood.

The radio was working perfectly the other night when I installed my Rancho's and steering stabilizer, and the truck wasn't moved til I started working on it last night.

My '95 did much the same thing when the button that switches between clock and display got stuck in the display position. All I did was spray electronic cleaner on the switch while working it back and forth, it's been fine for several years now. I attribute the problem to cola spilled from the POS cup holder above the stereo.

File this one away

in Ripley's believe it or not. This afternoon when I left to go to work, the radio was in the same condition as before. No display, no sound, not playing period! Tonight er this morning just a very few minutes ago, I climbed in turned the key on and lo and behold the display came on and the radio was playing normally. The only thing wrong was the clock. I had to reset the time because I had yanked the battery terminals Friday night hoping against hope that ight reset something but it was to no avail.

So in light of this, I am placing a bounty on the witchdoctor out there who is hexing and vexing me with gremlins! You know who you are and I want you to be banished from this earth. :D

Radio display inconsistent

I've had the same problem, basically, with my radio. At first the time would display, then after a while nothing... until I banged on the dash, then either the clock or the station ID would light. After a while nothing worked. Very aggravating. Where is the button/switch to select either the clock or the radio display? That seems like a possible cause. The other possibility sounds like a loose wire in some PC board or something. Any other people have the same problem that resolved it? Thank you.

I believe the button to select between Freq. disply and clock is the tuner knob. Just press it and it siwtches to and fro. I tried that early on thinking it was sticking but no luck. It just came back on its on, after turning the engine off and several hours later carnking it again. The truck was never moved nor did bang on the dash or radio in between. Still puzzled but its still working just fine. Gotta pull the dash apart in a few weeks any to tweek my antenna and connections. My Alarm pager module kills my AM reception and I need to install a separate antenna anyway.
