Hey guys, went out to start my pickup today, the temp. was 6 and it wasn't plugged in. Well it cranked once and all the lights went off and quit cranking like the battery quit. I checked my battery with the multimeter and it says 12. 25 volts. Now i have no power at all anywhere my door locks don't work or anything, I was out there tinkering with it checking the battery and i noticed the dome light on. i put the key in the ignition and the light went out. Any ideas? I really suck at these electrical problems. thanks in advance.

Check and clean all your connectioons to the ground and starter and also clean the posts on the battery and the clamps. Hopefully that is all it is i hope its nothing more than that. Thats the first thing i would do.

Battery Woes

Chris, Good start with the connections. Check the label for cold cranking amps, should be at least 1125 or more. At that temp you could have the volts but not the amps to push the job thru. I eventually had to change out a new battery that I had been sold for my truck about 850 cca, it just was not up to the job. Good luck..... R C

Sounds like bad connections at the battery to me. I have experienced exactly the same thing and cleaned the post and retightened and good to go.

James, yeah i just went out and did that and guess what started right up thanks alot guys, i think i'm going to end up cleaning everything up and getting new battery cables. thanks for the replies

Even though you got yours going, another good thing to check is the fuseable link. It supplies power to inside the cab. If they get funky, you can have intermittant power inside which when it's not working pretty much renders everything inoperative.
