Here's one for ya!

This morning after I started the truck, I noticed that my ABS and Brake light stayed lit. I also noticed that my speedometer didn't work and the odometer was lit but not incrementing.

Being that the speedometer was also affected, I assumed that is was something electrical and went about my morning stops.

After about the fourth stop ( stopping and restarting the truck at each stop ), the ABS & brake went out and the speedometer & odometer were working normally right after I started the truck, just as if there was never anything wrong... .

Now I ask all of you TDR Wizards out there,,,,, "What the heck would cause a condition as I described????"

I would like to do some preventative maintenance to avoid this condition in the future.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!!!

ABS

Someome in our club (NW Bombers) had that happen and it turned out to be the bearing was toast and took out the sensor on the wheel it might have been the speed sensor. Best of luck to you. Eric

Sensor

Ima think the front wheel sensors would not affect the speedo, might be the one in the top of the rear diff. ? bg

I agree with B. G. Smith. You need a new rear wheel speed sensor.

My '99 did the same thing. The sensor is located on the top, forward side of the rear diff. Only thing with wires there.

B. G. Smith & jhurst,

Would the rear wheel sensor affect the speedometer along with the ABS and brake light indicators?

Also, can I repalce this sensor myself?

Thanks in advance for you help!!!

My speedo quit working and both the ABS and BRAKE lights came on when my speed sensor quit.

You can replace the sensor yourself easily. When removing the old sensor, it is more than likely going to break apart, so dont worry about if you do.

Good luck!

Light

When mine went out, the ABS light started coming on first. Then it started staying on and the speedo started jumping around. bg

It is located on the top of the rear diff, somewhat toward the driver's side of the truck. It'll be the only electrical connection going into the diff. (Or should be, at least. )
