I have a minor complaint and I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. When I turn my 04. 5 off and exit the vehicle, I get one hell of an electrical shock when I touch the door. It happens everytime I exit the vehicle. This is my second 3rd gen truck and I don't remember my 03 doing this. I don't have any electrical accessories added. I have cloth seats (poss static electricity). Do people with leather seats have this problem? Anyone have this problem?

Welcome to dry air and cloth seats. You build up a MASSIVE static charge. I have just got used to rubbing my leg on the door sill or touchhing the back of my hand to the door to discharge the shock than dealing with the pain of the shock going through my fingertips.

Sounds like static electricity from sliding off the seat. Is the humidity real low there? The leather seats don't do it. I think there is a spray you can use on the seats to stop it. If you can put your hand on something metal that is attached to the truck when you exit it will also eliminate the shock. bg

No... I never have this problem... but the railroad fired me because i was a bad conductor... :-laf

I knew a guy who hung out at truck stops waving a baton. He was a semi-conductor.

Static Guard will work for a short time (no electrical pun intended) but the shock will come back.

Body of vehicle can build up static charge from friction with atmosphere. Sounds like you're saying "sitting in the seat, reaching for door, shock occures, before touching earth" which makes it sound like door is charged. Back in the 50's and 60's, fad item was two leather straps hanging from rear bumper lightly dragging ground. They were electrical discharge straps. Have you detailed vehicle with any type of finishing sealer recently? It's possible something like that could increase vehicle skin building static friction charge. Just to prove things out try a alligator clip jumper wire from some metal point inside vehicle and clipped to door while driving and see if you still get shocked when touching door.

I have leather in this truck and I do not experience those shocks, however, the last truck I had was a chevy with cloth seats and I hated opening the door due to the shock that I would receive.

What I do, is I touch the door, or anything grounded well and hold onto it while I slide out...

I usually do that too, but often I still get a heck of a shock. It always worked on my other vehicles though.

You can buy these from large truck places... they are still used for dissipating static electric on tank trucks... I bought a few, but they are not leather...

I also ran my 99 for a long time with a piece of vinyl-coated cable (attached to the frame) hanging down to the ground to serve the same purpose, but it wore down (had to remember to leave extra coiled up)... the straps don't have this problem, but they tend to freeze to the ground and get ripped off. The cables tend to work better IMO than the straps... I intend on converting back to a cable this weekend...

I found that I had to run a static strap because I continually got zapped after installing my Wilson 5000 antenna for my CB... running either the cable or the strap definately helps and you can tell when they are not touching the ground...
